1/3 The High-Level Side Event on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) on the margins of UNGA81 in New York brought together leaders, policymakers, practitioners, and partners to reaffirm the critical role of women in conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.

Today I had a productive meeting with Mr. Johan Borgstam the European Union Special Representative for the Great Lakes Region. The EU is a valuable partner in our quest for regional integration.

The International Contact Group for the Great Lakes (ICG), 🇧🇪 🇩🇰 🇨🇦🇪🇺 🇫🇷 🇩🇪🇳🇱🇸🇪🇨🇭🇬🇧🇺🇸, under the Swedish Chairpersonship, convened in Nairobi and Addis Ababa on 17-19 June to further strengthen dialogue and cooperation with the African-led mediation and regional partners. On 19 June the Special Envoys, together with the Representative of the AU-appointed Mediator @presidencecstg and the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region @un_greatlakes, held meetings at @_AfricanUnion Headquarters, with H.E. Youssouf @ymahmoudali, Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. @SahleWorkZewde, co-facilitator responsible for humanitarian affairs under the AU-led mediation, and H.E. @Bankole_Adeoye, AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security. AU-led mediation, supported by strong regional engagement, remains central to achieving lasting peace in the Great Lakes Region. The International Contact Group reiterated its support for the peace efforts by the AU-appointed mediator, as well as the Panel of Facilitators, the AU Commission, and regional partners. Deux volontaires de la Croix-Rouge ont été tués dans l’exercice de leur mission au Sud Kivu, RDC. Un rappel brutal des risques auxquels sont exposés les acteurs humanitaires et de la nécessité de faire respecter le droit international humanitaire afin de protéger les civils.

Nous avons appris avec tristesse le meurtre de 2 volontaires de la @croix_rouge_rdc au #SudKivu. Nos pensées vont à leurs familles et aux collègues #CroixRouge. Le respect et la protection du personnel humanitaire sont impératifs pour préserver une ligne de vie pour les victimes
