Today is my birthday. Birthdays have never been a huge day for me, to be honest there are always complicated feelings on this day, but today this year I sit here with a feeling of thankfulness, appreciation an disbelief
I remember this day in 2016 I was facing the 3rd infusion
Another day another trip to the cancer center for yet another appointment, sometimes it feels like a never ending ride. Most people that havent experienced this don't understand what is cancer patients deal with in the amount of time we spend going to and from appointments
Chemo round 189. The words are difficult today because the struggle is real, the pain is high, the side effects are already on the extreme levels. Today those thoughts of how long can I do this, how much more can I endure, how many more times can I force myself to go and show up
Chemo round 189. Its a day I don't feel like being here I don't feel like being strong or being inspiring I feel like complaining and just getting through the day.
Its okay to have days like this to just survive and get through it. These days ain't fun they aren't helpful to me
Today it seems we only acknowledge the big events, the big news good or bad but I feel that it's so important to let others know you see them doing the work showing up and trying and especially in my world and my life I know life is to short to precious to not tell people to not
Social media is complicated. There are a lot of bad things that can come from it but there are also so much good and helpful things. Social media changed my life in so many ways from introducing me to amazing organizations like

11 years I honestly don't know how I've made it here today. 9/4/15 seems like multiple lifetimes ago, thinking about where my life was back then hearing the words you have cancer to where it's at now is mind blowing
11 years since my life changed forever
Learning what being an advocate was and about these advocacy organizations changed my life. From helping me learn more about colorectal cancer, clinical trials, AYA cancer, rural healthcare and so much more to giving me multiple communities made up of incredible survivors and
Treatment round 188 I sit here in this chair, physically I know what's coming, the world and life seem to be on a broken rollercoaster of ups and downs that strain the mental health but through it all I show up for the 188th time an find my way back every 21 days
Showing up is
Chemo round 188 this life with cancer is hard as hell. Life might look one way to others but you never can truly understand what someone is going through.
I try to be as transparent as possible with the good and the bad in my life, cancer has given me a purpose in advocacy,
This week has had procedures and spirals for me personally
It's had tough news for many friends in the cancer world
It's had us as a society losing absolute icons and people that brought us so much joy and made the world at large better
It's had unimaginable natural disasters
Cancer caused my mental health to go to a very bad place anxiety and depression made me isolate an not want to be around people or feel like I belonged anywhere or had any purpose other than being sick. It led to suicidal thoughts and me being worried an scared enough of what I
Time for yet another appointment

Another screening
Another test
More waiting
More anxiety
More stress
More unknown
More weight that we as cancer patients have to deal with, an its different from other people outside the cancer world

Part 2 of the content I filmed for @joindropsapp is all about mental health an how important it is to be talked about an acknowledged in cancer care but also In all of healthcare. You can see the physical challenges I've been through with cancer but the mental ones are invisible
Day 4000 since I got diagnosed with colorectal cancer. I don't know why the clinical trial worked for me and not so many other incredible people I don't know why I'm still here but I know I'm grateful and I'm thankful to be here
I'm thankful for every person that has impacted
In June while I was attending #ASCO some amazing people asked me to come film some content for the incredible new app they have @joindropsapp

A decade, 10 years, 120 months ago I was waiting on the results of my scans to see if the latest line of cancer treatment was working. I knew I was running out of time and options.
The call came and it was bad news the cancer was growing faster, this was a time when I could
Let's go back to Chicago one more time this year, this time for the #cosmo2026 conference which is all about building trust in the digital oncology age and so much more.
Social media can be great but can also be bad, it's a double edged sword in every way from information to
The first picture 8/1/2015 the last time I felt like the guy I had known for 27 years. I had lost 75lbs since Jan 1st and was doing a CrossFit competition, looking back I knew something was wrong I had a hard spot on my abdomen that throbbed and was having bowel issues but I
The memories hit you without warning it could be from a thought, a sound, a smell, a word or anything but instantly you're taken somewhere else. My feet are firmly on the ground by my mind my soul my thoughts are a million miles away good or bad it's all the same until after

Me and my mom 10 years ago at a Relay for Life event in my hometown. I was still reeling from the cancer being back and just 2 rounds of intense chemo in or 14th round overall. I had no hope here I was lost and convinced I wasn't going see age 30.
Treatment round 186: Once you hear the words YOU have cancer your life is different in so many ways. For me I felt the loss of control, the loss of my purpose and dreams, also the loss of some of the connection to everyone I knew in my life
Almost 11 years in and I'm still
A lot of the time in the world of cancer is a lot of bad news, it's a lot of loss it's a lot of pain it's a lot of mental emotional and physical struggles. Not just for the patient but everyone that patients life touches
While it's so important to talk about these things true
Words are hard to come by right now never in my wildest imagination did I think I'd ever find my name on a list like this. When I decided to start sharing my life with cancer and then become a Cancer Advocate I didn't care about recognition I didn't care about being on stage or
Chemo round 185. I wanted the feelings and emotions to stick with me more than what I was feeling sitting in the chemo chair all the time
Sometimes I feel like I'm doing good other times I feel like the world and this life has crushed me
Sometimes I feel like Im helping others
10 years ago I started chemo treatments again due to my cancer coming back and spreading, it was my 13th overall infusion, 5 years ago today I hit my 100th infusion and this Wednesday will be my 185th infusion of my life saving cancer killing drugs
Sometimes numbers don't do it
A lot of days and anniversaries stick out to me and I talk about all of them because they have shaped my life with cancer and life over all but today June 16th is always the one that stands alone.
10 years ago 6/16/2016 at 2:15 I was at Duke Cancer center a appointment that
