I knew John Garrett for more than 40 years…worked alongside him at Hockey Night in Canada and Sportsnet for half that time. John was everything you could ask for in a friend, a co-worker and a teammate. He did his job with the right level of professionalism… with gravitas and humour. He loved the Canucks, the Blue Jays and being the Grandfather. Most of all, he loved his wife Sharon He was the best of us.

John Garrett was the colour commentator for the two most legendary Winnipeg Jets moments. Dave Ellett’s goal and the Manitoba Miracle goal. 35 years apart. youtu.be/olI1fj76WCY?si=wZ36…

He was one of the best. Called as he saw it, no favouritism unlike most of today's analysts. He was a gem

He sure was John. A legend in our hometown of Trenton. I just saw him at his brothers' wake in March. Had a great chat with him and who knew it was the last time we would speak in person. You just never know..... RIP Cheech

Because he was a West Coast guy, I only had a few opportunities to interview John. But I remember him as a gracious, humorous and insightful interview subject. Gone far too soon.

John Garrett would stroll into a gym I attended often in the early 90's. Mustache, hair, a great smile, a red Mizuno Superstar "Sauna Suit" with badminton racket in tote. I laugh reminiscing the gassed look on the faces of the opponents with young legs after a session #Kindaura

My condolences John. Envious y’all got 2 know him on a level I never will. But in a way, we all felt like we knew him personally. So this one hurts. Rest in peace Cheech. I’m adding an extra dab of ketchup today. Thank you for everything, from the goalie mask to game 8. #Canucks
