To the women defending the Cornell 7,
Your words hold weight. There is a gravity to your language and a magnitude to the injustice it perpetuates that goes far beyond this case. Every attempt to discredit the survivor makes it harder for the next woman to speak, helping build the silence that keeps survivors from reporting sexual assault and participating in the same culture of disbelief that has protected rapists for generations.
You are the mothers young girls tell who don’t believe them. You are the school nurse, the neighbor’s mom, the teacher, the guidance counselor. You are the friend a woman calls after she’s been raped, the coworker she confides in, the nurse who examines her, the police officer who takes her statement. You are every woman she turns to believing she’ll be safe, only to discover you are one more person she has to survive.
I don’t know what kind of mental gymnastics, lack of moral fortitude, or religious doctrine you cling to in order to justify this, but FUCK YOU TO HELL.
