One great thing about @FreeStateNH is that it is succeeding as a peaceful revolution. The strategy is built around the numbers game that matters for voting, institution-building, and culture. There is truth in the old saying about the four boxes of liberty: 1. The soap box 2. The ballot box 3. The jury box 4. The ammunition box America’s founding generation ultimately used all four in securing their rights, but the sequence matters. Armed conflict came only after peaceful political remedies had failed. The Free State Project is operating in a very different world. We have constitutional institutions and democratic republican processes through which peaceful change is possible, and our strategy is succeeding through them. - We are winning arguments at the soap box. - We are winning elections at the ballot box. - And those victories have even helped secure greater liberty at the jury box, including New Hampshire’s strong protections for informing juries about their authority to judge the application of the law. That is why suggestions of political violence are so reckless. At best, they abandon a peaceful strategy that is working. At worst, they threaten to destroy it. When you are winning peacefully, keep winning peacefully.

Creigh views the NJ Fair Share requirement as an unadulterated good. It is merely a justified tax on the windfall gains created by the removal of zoning restrictions. I think this is incorrect. He fails to recognize that the exclusionary zoning in the first instance is an integral part of the Mount Laurel Doctrine. The government essentially takes away legitimate development rights with one hand and gives them back with a set-aside requirement with the other. There is no separating of the two, Fair Share depends on exclusionary zoning. It's a dysfunctional system that results in a significant deadweight loss compared to a simple general upzoning.
