Labeling district-based outcomes as "illegitimate" or "misrepresented" just because they aren't proportional statewide always seems to obfuscate about how and why framers in the US and individual states purposefully rejected a system of proportional representation.
Actually, most North Carolinians voted for Democrats to represent them in the NC state legislature. Republican partisan gerrymandering overturned their will.

So partisan gerrymandering isn't a real phenomenon?

Dismissing the results of grossly gerrymandered districts meant to undermine the will of the voters as simply "district based outcomes" seems to obfuscate the very real harm done to our American system of governance that the framers so readily warned us about.

It’s not proportionality to have a majority after winning a majority of total votes.

Why should rural votes count for more than suburban and urban? There's not justification for R gerrymandering that does this. Proportional representation is good
