A pleasure to meet with Taly Mair, Director of the European Council of Jewish Communities, @ECJCommunities, here in Athens. Taly has been a close friend and partner for many years, and it was especially meaningful to share with her the work we are leading through the Center for Jewish Impact, SASA Setton, Alumot Or and Anières Mechina. A timely conversation about Israeli civil society, Jewish communities across Europe and the Diaspora, and the many opportunities to strengthen the connections between them.

Dolly Parton wasn’t Jewish. Yet within hours of her death, her Wikipedia page was vandalized with a swastika and the words “Jew lover,” while others somehow turned her death into something about Israel. That’s antisemitism: finding a way to drag Jews or Israel into everything, even when they have absolutely nothing to do with it. Using someone’s death to feed that obsession is just ugly. Rest in peace, Dolly.

Germany is taking an important stand by moving to criminalize calls for Israel's destruction. It reflects a lesson history taught us at an unbearable cost: antisemitism does not begin with violence. It begins when ideas that target Jews become acceptable. Calling for the elimination of the world’s only Jewish state is not another political opinion. It is antisemitism. And law should treat it as such.

More than five centuries after Jews were expelled from Spain, we are once again seeing messages declaring them unwelcome, this time under the word “Zionists.” Seeing this antisemitism spread through the streets, carried by ordinary people, should concern everyone.

This weekend, more than 50,000 people filled the streets of New York for the Israel Day Parade. No riots. No vandalism. No calls for violence. No terrorist flags. Just people celebrating their identity, their heritage, and their connection to Israel. At a time when anti-Israel demonstrations too often translate into intimidation, glorification of terror, and antisemitic rhetoric, the contrast could not be clearer. We will not apologize for our pride. We will not hide our connection to Israel. And we certainly will not surrender the streets to those who spread hate in its name.

The most disturbing part about the fire at the Golders Green kosher supermarket in London is that an antisemitic attack felt more realistic than an accident. That’s what being Jewish feels like in 2026.

It is not luck or coincidence that Israel has finished in Eurovision’s top 5 for four consecutive years. In completely different moments, in war and in peace, and despite all the noise in recent years, Noam Bettan, Yuval Raphael, Eden Golan, and Noa Kirel reached the top because they brought real talent to the stage. A streak like this comes from hard work, resilience, and the refusal to settle for anything less than excellence. Pure Israeli spirit 🇮🇱
