At the #DiamondOpenAccess conference, @JoyOwango shared the Collaborative #OpenScience Training Initiative: an Africa-built MOOC hosted by @AAU_67 with 11 modules on FAIR data, open access and PIDs
Built by AAU, @ASRENorg , AOSP North Africa, @PLOS & TCC Africa.
.@JoyOwango outlined a collaborative initiative to develop an Open Science MOOC tailored to the needs of African research ecosystems.
The four-week, self-paced course will feature 11 modules across three learning pathways: foundation, applied practice and leadership. Topics will include FAIR data, Open Access, persistent identifiers and policy.
Designed for researchers, university librarians, ICT and repository leads, and institutional policymakers, the course will use practical African case studies and examples. It will also be available in English, French and Arabic to promote wider participation.
The MOOC is expected to launch in January 2027, with AAU providing the Moodle learning platform.
The initiative aims to equip Africa’s research community with the knowledge and practical skills to adopt, implement and sustain equitable and locally relevant open science practices.
