JB Muwonge, NUP activist, gives a chilling summary of the ongoing abductions in Uganda, including the case of Sam Mugumya, whose whereabouts remain unknown after more than a year. Despite his lawyers making every possible effort to find him, state continues to claim that it does not have him, leaving his family and lawyers with no answers. This is the typical modus operandi of foreign power-greedy criminal despot Museveni’s regime: people disappear, the state denies having them, and families are left searching for answers that never come. It is a coordinated system of repression built around denial, fear and impunity. It is deeply painful that all of us as Ugandans have had to endure this kind of repression for so long. Tibuhaburwa Kagutema alias Museveni should account for people in his custody, not make their whereabouts a mystery while their families and lawyers desperately search for them.

In an exposing twist, CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s Turkey stunt has now been dissected by Turkish media—and the reading is brutal. Türkiye Today describes Uganda’s confrontation with Ankara as a “tantrum” and argues that the Lumbuye dispute may not be the real issue at all. The article says the bigger story is Uganda’s military role in Somalia and the financial payments attached to that deployment. The Turkish publication points to Uganda’s thousands of troops in Somalia and argues that the winding down of the mission could mean millions of dollars in lost monthly payments for Kampala. It says Muhoozi’s demand that Türkiye compensate Uganda—including his reported $1 billion “security dividend” demand—should be understood against that backdrop. And then comes the savage part. The article argues that the Lumbuye protest outside the Turkish Embassy was being used as a public bargaining tool, rather than simply being about extraditing Lumbuye. It even reveals that protesters were paid $5 each. The Turkish paper also rejects the argument that Türkiye is simply profiting from Somalia. It points to Turkish investment in Somalia—including the airport, port, military training, infrastructure and energy exploration—and contrasts that with Uganda’s model of deploying troops and receiving payments. So the message coming out of this article is devastating for Muhoozi’s narrative: Turkey appears to be reading the confrontation not simply as a fight over Lumbuye, but as a Ugandan attempt to pressure Ankara over the changing economics of Somalia. And suddenly, the embassy protest, the threats against Turkey, the suspension of military cooperation and the Lumbuye drama look like pieces of a much bigger geopolitical argument.
