ALT A statement from Mayor of the West Midlands: "It’s a tragedy that so many innocent lives are lost on our streets because of the dangerous behaviour of some mindless motorists. This cannot go on. During the election, I pledged to work with partners across the West Midlands to keep our residents safe and tackle the criminals using our streets as a racetrack. I promised to do whatever it takes to prevent people being tragically and avoidably killed and seriously injured on our roads. I intend to deliver on that promise. I will be meeting urgently with the Leader of Birmingham Council, John Cotton, and the Police and Crime Commissioner, Simon Foster, to put in place the action needed to help combat this scourge. I will also raise the issue with the Transport Secretary, Louise Haigh. I will bring together all partners in the region to help us achieve Vision Zero. No death on our roads is acceptable, that’s why we must strive to protect everyone across the network.”
