Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recommended — and President Donald J. Trump has approved — death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan, the jihadist who opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Fort Hood in 2009. He killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the attack. The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution. Judgement day for Hasan has finally come.

The end of software secrecy is almost upon us. The death of closed source, and the final triumph of open source. I should have realized this a few months ago when I successfully decompiled the game of Firefighter from an ancient DOS shareware binary. My robot friend was able to tell it had been written in Borland Pascal from looking at the data layout; it gave me back very readable Pascal code with sensibly chosen function and variable names. I transpiled it to Rust and now ship it as part of my heritage games collection. The thing is, I thought of this as a fun stunt but didn't have any confidence that the technique would scale up to large, real programs. I have since learned that people are now doing this sort of thing with entire AAA games, which are among the most complex software artifacts ever to be shipped as a binary. If they can be decompiled, anything can be. This has implications. Massive implications. We need to think about what the world is like when, in general, there is no longer a secrecy moat around almost any software at all. 1/2

A few thoughts about the narrowly averted disaster aboard the flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv today: 1. There were multiple failures here, including that the co-pilot and apparent perpetrator wasn't flagged in advance and that he was able to conceal and use a weapon of some sort to attack the captain while they were locked in the cockpit. 2. Flydubai is a government-owned airline and this incident is deeply embarrassing to both the airline and the UAE government. Emirati authorities will do everything in their considerable power to investigate what happened and prevent it from reoccurring. 3. The UAE is the only country in the world, aside from Israel, whose airlines have flown to and from Israel almost without interruption since October 7, 2023. The UAE has proven to be a deeply committed friend of Israel's and the Emiratis ascribe tremendous importance to both the bilateral relationship between the two countries and the maintenance of the air link between them. Flydubai's Tel Aviv route is one of the airline's busiest and most frequent, with up to ten daily flights in each direction. All of this reinforces the previous point: the Emiratis will do whatever they can to prevent this from happening again. 4. The only reason everyone on the plane is alive is because of the Israeli passengers who decided to take matters into their own hands, break into the cockpit, subdue the perpetrator, and enable the plane to land safely. This is a tremendous testament to their heroism and bravery and to the Israeli spirit that has shown itself throughout Israel's existence and particularly during the past three years. 5. A word of appreciation for Saudi authorities, who—by all accounts—handled this incident with great professionalism, coordinated closely with Israeli authorities, and treated the passengers with courtesy and care. I am surely not the only Israeli who breathed a sigh of relief knowing that the plane had landed in Saudi Arabia. I'm not sure that would have been the case just a few years ago.

I'm going to get piled on for saying this, but the reason I find the Jew-hate so disturbing isn't primarily because I'm Jewish. It's because it's so unbelievably obviously a symptom of a far deeper moral and intellectual rot. It stems directly from the mass importation into our societies of forms of third-worldist, conspiratorial, anti-Western bigotry that are absolutely commonplace in the Islamic world. It was always obvious progressives would cave in the face of that. But watching many conservatives so sheepishly capitulate too, and top influencers desperately go along with it to try and hoover up clicks and likes from a massive, mostly foreign Islamic social media base has been mind-blowing, if not entirely surprising with hindsight. It's, obviously, not going to stop with the Jews. We can literally see the same people wiping out Christians in their hundreds of thousands, right now. The question is do our societies have the intellectual fortitude to deal with this relatively idiotic but deeply sinister new challenge?
The way a society treats Jews is a litmus test for me. An antisemitic society is a sick society, a society that has lost its way.

This is Alruna, the daughter of Götz Kubitschek, my publisher. He has 7 children. The whole family is treated like enemies of the state in Germany. Alruna already has 2 children and finished her studies for a teaching degree and passed the first state exam with the best possible marks (straight A). She had already been accepted and given an appointment to start the 18-month teacher traineeship in August 2026 at a high school in Dresden in Saxony. A few weeks before she was to take the position, the Saxon school authority revoked the already granted admission after the secret service ("Verfassungsschutz") got involved. The VS is a repression tool against patriots in Germany. The Administrative Court and Higher Administrative Court of Saxony upheld the revocation. They timed the ruling so that an urgent appeal was impossible. Their official reason: doubts about a “minimum of loyalty to the constitution” because she "attended" one event of her father. Kubitschek often has events at his publishing headquarters, where part of the family helps out with organization. Alruna has been doxxed, her family harassed, her house vandalized. Terrorist Antifas are hunting her down, and now even the courts and state terrorize her. This is just the tip of the iceberg. Everywhere Germans peacefully try to create their own patriotic networks, have children, and raise healthy families and make an income, the system does everything to hunt them down, persecute them, and make it legally and economically impossible. Everywhere you see a sign of excellence, life, and beauty in Germany, the Antifa-System crushes it and replaces it with woke obedience, ugliness and imported migrants. Right now elites have turned the state into an instrument that is not protecting or representing, but humiliating, persecuting, and destroying the German people.

The DSA has become more than a political organization—it functions as a community-building institution that gives lonely, nonreligious downwardly mobile young people from elite backgrounds purpose, identity, friendships, and practical political training. That social infrastructure produces highly committed activists who can be deployed across the country to help elect candidates and gradually normalize hard-left politics. The movement's objective is not merely to elect self-described socialists in the short term, but to build a durable political infrastructure capable of advancing a truly Marxist agenda over time. Figures like Zohran Mamdani help legitimize the ideology, while allied candidates in more moderate or conservative states adapt the same agenda to local political realities—downplaying labels, emphasizing populist themes, or even running as independents—to make those ideas electorally viable where an explicit socialist would struggle.

A follower just pointed out to me that this paper was written by someone I previously caught pushing p-hacked AI slop. It's not a one-off! It's Wansink-style work.
Maybe these mistakes were partly due to AI. One of the citations is a hallucination.

When Europe is referred to as just "Europe", it is misleading pretty much every single time. The map below is from PolicoPro and shows poll respondents across 24 EU countries, split between those favouring closer ties with Washington and those favouring closer ties with Beijing. (Green US; Red China; Grey Divided).

Here is what we know: U.S. taxpayer money, funneled through USAID and NIH, funded gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. That research likely caused the COVID pandemic that killed millions and cost trillions. Dr. Fauci personally signed off on these experiments, then lied to Congress about it. Biden tried to protect him with a last-minute pardon. That’s the very definition of a cover-up.

It’s not just Colombia. Virtually all Latin American countries have a better vote reporting system than Peru. I cannot think of any country in Latam with a worse system. Which could mean that it is perhaps bad by design.

Someone reminded me about that Netflix WW2 movie about the black women who collected the mail or whatever. So we have movies now dedicated to WW2 mail carriers and WW2 meteorologists. Can we all agree that we’ve had enough of these movies for a while? They are scraping the very bottom of the barrel for WW2 film plots. There’s thousands of years of human history to tell stories about. We can move on from the Second World War for a while. We get it.

If this goes forward — $250 bill with Trump's face on it. — Chinese will get a huge kick out of it. "250" (二百五, èrbǎiwǔ) is a common Chinese insult meaning a half-wit, a blockhead, a fool. Comedy writes itself. 笑死.

when i got my first real job (i.e. outside of academia) at GM, 80% of the job consisted of attending mandatory conferences where HR-marms lectured you about your internalized racism or whatever. a solid 40% of the IT departments were diversity hires that did essentially nothing all day beyond enthusiastically twisting the screws in the HR-organized struggle sessions. i moved to mexico thinking it would be better, but no same thing (more focus on sexism though). then i moved to supposedly based poland and it was somehow even worse because poles have no shame about doing absolutely fucking nothing all day. at one point i was even gently pushed out of a company explicitly because i was like the only one actually doing work all day instead of social club lol basically at some point all institutions get captured by these people and they essentially siphon off 20-25% of the revenue to give to themselves and their ilk, and create laws making it illegal for anyone to stop it (or in countries where such things are difficult, organize mass cancellations and PR disasters for any companies that don't bend the knee) and "this economy" isn't going anywhere. the superstructure of HR, PR, compliance, consulting, regulatory, AML, social outreach, etc, will simply extract increasing resources until full serfdom and impoverishment of everyone else, as putting an end to "this economy" would require a complete transformation of society that no one seems poised to undertake any time soon
its so funny that men found out that this was what women were doing at their jobs and the men went "im crashing this economy with no survivors"
