My column in today's Observer looks at the critical drubbing for Sigourney Weaver's performance in Jamie Lloyd's production of The Tempest

You might have seen clips of Rachel Zegler appearing on the balcony of the London Palladium as a bleach-blonde Eva Perón, writes @KateMaltby. But is the show any good?

"We guard our sanity by recognising our powerlessness as individuals. But we owe it to history to bear witness to our times."
I agree with every word of this brilliant column by @KateMaltby:

The stories of Oedipus, Elektra and their ilk are oh-so-relevant today—provided that new productions do them justice, writes @KateMaltby.

Then we get to my investigation, published by the Sunday Times Magazine a year before the Charlene Downes one, in September 2007, four years before my esteemed colleague Andrew Norfolk's first piece was published in the Times, 20011.
I don't think Nigel Farage should be interviewed about violence against women and girls without mentioning the Reform MP who was jailed for physically abusing his partner
My heart is warmed by the number of men (rapists, sexual harassers, blatant misogynists) who now seem to have seen the light and are passionately concerned about the endemic rape and abuse of girls by pimping gangs.
"England’s cricketers are being asked to normalise a regime that treats women as livestock"
My @theipaper column this week is on the moral imperative for England cricketers to boycott Afghanistan. All credit to @VictoriaPeckham & @DalgetySusan for leading on this.

And as I make clear in the piece, I'm pretty surprised by the attitude shown to Afghanistan by Peter Hain, who led the campaign to boycott South African cricket in 1970.
Hain has yet to comment on this latest fixture. An intervention from him would be welcome. But back in 1970, he insisted that a nation should only be welcomed to international fixtures if it allowed all its people, no matter their race, to play cricket. Perhaps he meant only men.

Will Sigourney Weaver sound the death knell for celebrity Shakespeare? Or have we just reached peak Jamie Lloyd?
If the star forgets her speech on 'opening' night, but all the critics saw the show at an earlier performance, did it really happen?
