As a woman, a mom, and a daughter of aging parents, public safety is a top priority on my list. We live in a state that's increasingly soft on crime; likewise, the Trenton Majority has been lackadaisical with properly funding those responsible for keeping us safe. Think about where we live. Some of our towns have their own police departments while others rely on State Police coverage, and nine times out of ten, fire and EMS in our rural & suburban communities are provided by VOLUNTEERS. These departments need equipment, reliable communications, adequate facilities & resources. The Trenton Majority is too busy funding their sea of wants over an entire state with needs, so having someone Federally representing this area who actually understands how public safety works here is critical. @CongressmanKean does. He was a volunteer firefighter & EMT himself, knows this district inside and out, and since taking office in Congress has brought $22 MILLION back to NJ-07 for local and county law enforcement alone, with millions more going toward fire departments, emergency operations & other first-responder needs. In Sussex Co., Tom brought back $1.237 MILLION for a permanent headquarters for the Byram Township Police Department, whose officers have been working out of old construction trailers dating back to the 1970s. This was a need, and TK delivered. Then there's another huge piece: constituent service is his hallmark. It was true when he served in the State Legislature & it's true in Congress. You call his office, you get an answer and you get help; his congressional office has already closed more than 5,400 constituent cases, and more than $100 MILLION has come back to NJ-07, in part through money recovered for constituents through federal casework. NJ's 24th Legislative District is split between two congressional districts; I live in NJ-05, while my parents, other family members, and tens of thousands of constituents in the 24th live in NJ-07. So yes, I care very much about who represents them, and we need someone who knows our communities, understands what we need, and has a long track record of results. That's why I joined "Women for Kean" on Thursday night, and why I steadfastly support Tom. I don't need platitudes about supporting first responders; fund them, equip them & back them. Any campaign funded by those who want to defund the police or abolish prisons, or a candidate cozying up to those radical positions is an absolute non-starter for me and for women who want safe communities.
