Cpl. Matthew C. Henderson, 25, of Lincoln, Nebraska, was a combat engineer with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division. On May 26, 2004, in Al Anbar Province, an IED killed him and two other Marines, including Lance Cpl. Kyle Codner. He warned his squad to get back before the blast. The rest survived.
His job was clearing bombs so other people could drive home safely.
On May 26, 2004, one bomb went off and ended his life.
