Despite all the hoopla about keeping Daylight Saving Time year-round, there’s one thing nobody can change: we are NOT getting more daylight in the winter. The shortest days will still have the exact same amount of sunlight. Moving the clock ahead an hour doesn’t create another hour of daylight. It just moves that hour from the morning to the evening. So yes, it may stay light later in the afternoon, but the tradeoff is that the sun rises an hour later in the morning. In parts of Arkansas, that could mean winter sunrises after 8:00 AM. Daylight Saving Time didn’t start because somebody wanted more time to enjoy summer evenings. Germany was the first country to adopt it nationwide in 1916 during World War I as a way to conserve coal and fuel for the war effort. Other countries followed, including the U.S. in 1918. It never created more daylight, it just changed what the clock said when we used it. You can change the clock. You can’t change the tilt of the Earth.

Unpopular opinion. I agree with Cotton. We all want the clock change to stop. But stopping it on daylight saving time is the wrong place to stop because of exactly what Cotton says. Stop the clock on standard time. It's easier to adjust life to standard time than savings time. Might disagree with Cotton on a lot of things, but this is where, no pun intended, the broken clock is right.

Sorry but I disagree! A lot of this is completely inaccurate and I’m disappointed that President Trump for pushing this! This has been polled over and over, an avg of 65% of citizens DO NOT want Permanent DST! We want Permanent STANDARD time! We need it for our health and safety! Let’s fall back in a few weeks and get our hour of morning back!! Then lock the clock. You’re hoping to get a 1.2% increase in revenue out of Southern Costal states! No one likes changing the clock, me included, but Congress has enacted permanent Daylight Savings Time multiple times before and repealed it each time once Americans experienced absurdly late sunrises in the winter. Arkansans don’t want their kids going to school in the pitch dark, and I’ll always put Arkansas first.

HYPOTHETICALLY… IF I BOUGHT MY HOUSE FOR $125,000 IN 2002 AND THE COUNTY NOW SAYS IT’S WORTH $487,000, WHERE DID I ACTUALLY MAKE $362,000? Did I sell it? No. Did I receive $362,000? No. Did somebody hand me a check for the new assessed value? Obviously not. But my property taxes still go up because, on paper, my house is suddenly worth hundreds of thousands more. That’s the part that doesn’t make sense to me. This isn’t income. It isn’t cash sitting in my bank account. It’s a number someone assigned to my property, and now I’m being billed based on that number. If my stock portfolio doubles but I don’t sell, I haven’t turned that gain into cash. If my salary stays the same, I don’t suddenly owe more income tax because someone thinks I’m worth more. So why does owning a home work differently? WHY AM I PAYING TAX ON A GAIN I NEVER REALIZED? A house isn’t just an investment. It’s where people live. You can pay off the mortgage, own the property outright, and still face a bigger bill every year because the value of the house went up on paper. At some point, you have to ask what “owning” something actually means if the cost of keeping it can keep rising because of money you never received. THIS ISN’T ABOUT WHETHER THE HOUSE IS “WORTH” MORE. IT’S ABOUT BEING CHARGED FOR VALUE YOU NEVER TURNED INTO CASH. And people are starting to notice.
