They are utilizing athletics as a means to generate tuition revenue. Effectively, they are running a D3 athletic department on the D1 level. For example. In FY 2025, they had only 36 scholarship equivalents across their football roster. Dropping down hurts that model.

Really great information. That model to me is MORE associated with a private D2 or D3 school. They can’t even play FBS money games at that level. So why doesn’t the SWAC kick them out for this absurdly low level of funding? That’s definitely not serving the students.
