A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. Nature is amazing - we need more of it, not less. Please repost if you agree 🌳

A bumblebee can only fly for about 40 minutes between feeding. But we've lost 97% of our wiłdflower meadows. So each nectar-rich flower you plant in a windowbox or your garden or community green space could be the pit stop that saves a bee 🐝

Kitchen sponges like these are made of plastic. When they deteriorate, they shed microplastics that end up in the sea – harming marine environments. They can't be recycled, so remain in landfill for centuries. Please choose compostable sponges instead: littlegreenspace.org.uk/revi…

While Israel continues its genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, ethnic cleansing in the West Bank and persists with imposing its unlawful occupation and system of apartheid against Palestinians, PM Benjamin Netanyahu, wanted by the ICC for war crimes and crimes against humanity, is set to address the UN General Assembly in New York instead of standing trial at The Hague. It is doubly shameful that the US government continues to ignore the arrest warrant against Netanyahu - while denying Palestinian representatives visas to attend the UNGA. Nearly two years since the ICC issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu, impunity continues to reign - and Palestinians are paying the price. Continuing to undermine the ICC sends a cruel message to all victims of international crimes that prospects for justice remain elusive while the USA and other powerful states deliberately erode the universal value of international law. All states, including the USA, should enforce the Court’s arrest warrants and hand over Netanyahu to the ICC. International law must be upheld and international justice mechanisms supported to end impunity for international crimes and ensure respect for human rights for all.

Trees release compounds called phytoncides which can enhance mood and improve sleep. Phytoncides may even help prevent cancer. And native trees are brilliant for all sorts of wildlife - so let’s plant more trees, and cherish those we have already! 🌳 littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

Bonfires can harm hedgehogs. As they're often built over several days, hedgehogs have a chance to shelter unseen among the branches. If you have space, pile branches in a quiet corner instead, & leave them be – this is good for all sorts of wildlife! More: littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

After a hot dry summer like this one, I keep a shallow water dish out and leave a corner of my garden messy. Small changes add up for urban mammals. This data matters, please take part! #LivingWithMammals

Ivy is fantastic for wildlife – it can support 50 different species. For insects, ivy produces nectar-rich flowers when many other flowers are dying off – and continues blooming right through November. So, if you can, avoid cutting it back in autumn! More: littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

Dear councils, 97% of UK meadows are gone. So if you have wildflowers like ox-eye daisies on roadverges and in public spaces, don't spray them with weedkiller or over-mow them. Let's give pollinating insects like bees and butterflies a chance 🐝

Mind the gap! Creating a hole at the base of a fence helps create wildlife corridors, allowing creatures to move from one green space to another. Hedgehogs, for example, travel up to 2 miles each night in search of food – so they need room to roam 🦔 More: littlegreenspace.org.uk/feat…

Rewilding helps stop wildfires. Rewetted peatlands, beaver wetlands, less-flammable native broadleaf trees, and re-wiggled rivers put water back into the landscape, where it belongs – creating resilience against flooding, drought and wildfire. scotsman.com/news/opinion/co…
