ALT An overhead view, taken at night, showing the wood form -- built of strong lumber -- with rebar, or steel reinforcing rods, already placed inside it, before the crew begins to pour hundreds of tons of wet concrete inside the form. Later the wood form will be removed, leaving the concrete-and-steel foundation in place. Next, the abutment, or bridge wall, will be constructed on top of this foundation.
