Johnson v. Jacobson concerns a long haul trucker who has carry permits issued by Florida and Georgia. Minnesota honors some carry permits, but not others, and not the two permits Mr. Johnson has. As someone whose work inherently involves constant travel, he shouldn't have to run a gauntlet of permit applications, police interviews, and training courses in each state he wants to carry in.
We have filed an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to grant cert on his petition, or at minimum, to remand the case to the Eighth Circuit and order it to properly consider the traveler's exception history, which it has not done up to this point.
The brief will be pretty familiar to those of you who remember our brief in the Gardner petition.
We are joined in the brief by NRA, CRPA, MN Gun Owners Caucus, the 2ALC, and CCRKBA.
A thread with some highlights.
