π STAY SAFE. ENJOY WALES. π
Every year, families travel to Wales and other beauty spots to enjoy the outdoors. Sadly, every summer lives are lost because the dangers of open water are underestimated.
Water may look calm, but it can hide strong currents, sudden deep areas, cold water shock, and slippery rocks. Even confident swimmers can quickly get into difficulty.
Parents and guardians: Please take a few moments to speak to your children before they head out. One conversation today could save a life tomorrow.
Remember these simple safety tips:
* π« Do not enter rivers, lakes, reservoirs, quarries or the sea unless it is a designated safe swimming area.
β οΈ Stay well away from cliff edges, fast-flowing rivers and unstable rocks.
* βοΈ Cold water can cause cold water shock, making it difficult to breathe or swim.
* π Never underestimate hidden currents, even if the water looks calm.
* π₯ Never swim alone and always let someone know where you are going.
* π± In an emergency, call 999 immediately and ask for the *Coastguard* if at the coast.
* π If you fall into the water: Float to Live β lean back, keep your ears submerged, relax, control your breathing, then call for help or swim to safety if possible.
As a community, let us look after one another. A day of enjoyment should never become a day of heartbreak.
βAnd do not throw yourselves into destruction with your own hands.β(Qurβan 2:195)
