What I have heard from professionals explaining why we have so many competitive races in red states boils down to R voters thinking of the president’s antics, “it’s not funny anymore.” They’re hurting financially due to seemingly capricious actions in the WH while he focuses on memes, arches, and revenge. That the bleeding is in red states means it’s troubling but also solvable. The voters have an inclination to support Rs. Candidates: Fight them to a draw on gas prices. Yes they’re high and that really sucks. But Republicans hate high gas prices! Republicans support energy dominance and maximum fossil-fuel development. These prices are the result of foreign activity; the Iranians and the Russians are causing these gas prices and we’re fighting them both. We’re opening up the oil fields of Venezuela. Democrats want high gas prices. They want you driving electric cars or paying a carbon tax that goes into a remediation fund that pays their activists to teach your kids about how whales are gay or something. Attack them on this! Talk about the Green New Deal. Ask them if they agree with climate lawfare. If gas prices are high, it’s the right time to talk about “climate change.” They want to talk about Iran; make them talk about global warming. If you’re a Senate incumbent vote on all available California-waiver CRAs next week. It is a tangible action you can take that will *actually lower gas prices*. The president can even sign the vessels-at-berth CRA before the elections! Thereby ending a multibillion dollar green import-export tax on all goods coming through CA ports. The President: Stop fighting about ballrooms and arches and whose name is where for a little while. Tell your trade people to figure out which tariffs are raising prices the most in red states and remove them. Declare victory in those trade wars. Do a televised address (scripted, no weaving) on the Iran conflict. Explain why you launched it and how you have achieved all your goals and are now ending it in victory. Most importantly, stick to this course until the elections. Don’t let the fake news goad you into reversing any of it. Make fun of *them* by serving tacos in the WH. You’ll have more than two years in which to settle scores starting on 11/5.

Yes, China is trying to bully the world into taking the Wi-Fi band away, giving its device manufacturers global dominance, just like they did in 5G. This is another reason why U.S. policy is to preserve the Wi-Fi band for unlicensed use. Don't let China take our Wi-Fi.
While China and Europe move toward the upper 6 GHz band for 6G, the U.S. lags behind. New research shows that the 4 GHz band offers a strong alternative for advancing #6G and maintaining U.S. wireless leadership. More: bit.ly/4dhMTpk

Liam put it best four years ago, when Rs were still spending in NC & OH
There's still a non-zero chance that everybody is wrong about everything and all hell breaks loose. A hedge against a bad night is still more important to SLF than trying to shoot the moon. Spending less determinative on a night Rs hit 53-54 than one where they cling to 49-50.

Asked Sen. Gallego about the NYT Peltola story on staff mistreatment, who tells reporters: “when I was 25, I had a really bad boss. He made me run across an open fucking field of raking machine gun fire to breach a door. So, yeah, life's tough sometimes”

Not official yet. Based on what Senator Whitehouse said, the Senate should move forward with freedom-to-build ASAP (they have time on the calendar), pass it in the Senate, and then call on the House (which also has time on the calendar) to return and do their job.
BREAKING: a vote on permitting reform is officially being kicked to the lame duck, a senior Dem aide familiar with negotiations tells me. No vote before election. “The goal here has always been to pass permitting reform, not just to introduce it.”

This is bait but it doubles as a useful and revealing thought experiment.
Alright I’m gonna just ask: are we SURE that there are better candidates for 2028 than Kamala Harris. Not talking about personal preference or my politics but just stone cold ‘who should they run if they want to win.’ Who is obviously better?

Alignment ultimately more important than timing, but this is suboptimal at best.

There's a strong urge to hide the football in the legislative process until action is imminent, lest it be picked apart before by the opposition—and in a vacuum that is usually the right instinct. In this case, time is not on your side, and I'd argue inertia is the bigger threat.

The caveat is that you spring it publicly without the buy-in of the Dem negotiators you jeopardize whatever goodwill this process has generated and risk tanking the whole thing in a way that leaves everybody feeling wounded and self-righteous.

seems like both
Per a note to Boston Globe staff today, the lesbian bar story generated 1,000 subscriptions to the paper yesterday. The Globe’s managing editor said it was “by far our best performing story of the year,” and appears to be “on pace to shatter all sorts of Globe records.”

This take from @mattyglesias is correct. The big question is whether either party, and most relevantly today Democrats, is capable of accepting that thermostatic reaction is not a mandate. Any possibility of building a sustained governing majority, counterintuitively to partisans and ideologues, requires pursuing key policy and ideological objectives less maximally. open.substack.com/pub/matthe…

Psyching yourself into inaction because you don't have assurances of future conditional action is just a convoluted way of getting to no.
All the more reason for Senate Dems to go forward and make the lack of action (on this issue and many others) House Republicans' fault.

As with Trump, the more you doubt their sincerity, the more it makes sense to test the proposition. What do you have to lose?

NEW: Permitting goes past the 11th hour. Senators are hopeful that Trump’s signal that he would ease his blockade on wind projects will help unlock a deal. ENR ranking member Martin Heinrich told me last night talks are “on the five-yard line, but those five yards are hard”
