UPDATE: my map was built honestly, but the viral original I was responding to is even worse than I thought! Many thanks to @Tree_Coder, @pepitorias, @ortegadry and others for unpicking it. Three layers of deception in that original: 1. The colour fields for BOTH years are a 2025 forecast, not 1976 or 2026 data at all! 2. The scale shows anomalies, not absolute temperatures, so the visual impression of "same heat" is baked in by design! 3. The city callout numbers were invented to match the fake palette @pepitorias notes that on 24 June 1976 specifically, Bordeaux hit 35.4°C, Paris ~32.8°C, Madrid 29.2°C. Yesterday those cities hit 44.7°C, >40°C and ~40°C respectively. I've rebuilt using verified station records (Met Office, AEMET, Météo-France, KNMI, DWD, ERA5) updated with 24 Jun confirmed peaks. The real data is extraordinary. You don't need to fabricate anything, which is precisely why someone did.
