Tomorrow is another National Cleaning Day. On the last one, Ronald Kizito Jjuuko, 38, a boda boda rider and father of five, was shot dead at Ndejje-Kanaaba by Police Constable Allan Ogwal during enforcement of the cleaning-day restrictions. @PoliceUg later acknowledged that officers must use force lawfully, necessarily and proportionately, and said Ogwal had been arrested. But one month later, where is the accountability? There has been no public announcement that Ogwal has been charged. Police have also not publicly accounted for the outcome of their investigation or clearly communicated his current status. The consequences of Kizito’s death are now being borne by his family. He left behind a widow, Namawejje Esther, and five children in a two-bedroomed house. Unemployed and without the family’s sole breadwinner, she is now struggling to provide food, keep the children in school and meet the family’s basic needs. The family has received no support from government.

PAC Chairperson Patrick Nsamba has questioned UPDF officials over allegations of unlawful arrests and detention of suspects in basement facilities. #NTVNews The UPDF told the committee that such actions are carried out by individual officers and are not authorised by the institution.
