As a Criminologist I believe that time is well overdue to make dating sites and social media sites safe due to the increase in crime . Public access to cyber sites are coming up in the media as places where people meet for crime. Governments and the UN
@UN need to champion introducing new Legislation to include tougher penalties as a deterrent to this type of power abuse of community space technology services.
A new category - called Community Safety Interpersonal Abuse as a crime in our criminal databases that directly addresses and gives an additional 5 year court detention penalty to any perpetrator who met their victims online, or discussed in a group online chat potential criminal behaviours to any victim’s and/or abused their access to technology privileges to elicit crimes of; stalking, bullying, financial crimes (including cryptocurrency scams), identity theft, sexual harassment, sexual assault or violent criminal interpersonal offences. Thus this new category criminal offence would include victimisation of individuals through public access on community online digital cyber online, social media or dating site abuses. A period of detention for abusing public trust for serial criminals using the internet for a grounds to perpetuate abuse.
Community Access and safety needs to be protected, its a privilege to gain software access to chatrooms, to be in public spaces on social multimedia platform. Community participation should not lead to; interpersonal physical, stalking, sexual or financial cyber abuse, new legislation will act as a deterrent. People are being victimised and in worse case scenarios losing their lives, homicide offences raise questions and concerns for attention to law makers for immediate problem solving.
It would reduce the risk greatly if governments in the the dating database field required companies to introduce mandatory legislation for these online dating sites to require a current criminal history background police clearance yearly on profiles to be updated and verification check ID. Verification and registration requirements in dating , would increase public safety and should be mandatory product requirements and those who abuse software across different profiles eg.
@TinderSwindler should have lifetime bans for serial crime. No ID and clearance thus No profile given from the company. This would also stop automation bot abuse online from companies exploiting users like in the Ashley Madison case
@ashleymadison .
Crimes such as fraud, violence and Domestic violence histories should exclude individuals from getting a dating profile due to a history of serial criminal offending. Its time to make dating safe again for the new generation.
