Honda announced today it has developed technology that can wirelessly charge EVs, including large trucks, while being driven, and plans to test the technology on a Japanese highway.
Honda says each ground unit combines an inverter and a coil in a single package. The company calls it the world’s first such unit publicly disclosed as of the end of September 2026, based on its own research.
"The DC design cuts wiring inside the road, which means fewer components and less installation work. The units are built to drop into milled slots in existing pavement, so roads can be upgraded during routine resurfacing."
Durability and performance trials start on a new test road in late 2026, with public-road demonstrations planned starting in April 2027. They plan to validate output of up to 150 kW for large commercial vehicles.
