September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day. This year’s Orange Shirt Society Every Child Matters shirt features “Happiness,” a design by Grade 2 student Emily Galeazzi from Coldstream, BC, reflecting her message that every child should be happy and every child matters. Today is a time to honour the survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. For BC’s mining industry, reconciliation requires ongoing listening, learning and meaningful relationships with First Nations, grounded in respect and recognition. We encourage everyone to take time today to reflect, learn and consider the role we each have in advancing reconciliation. 🔸Artwork: Emily Galeazzi / Orange Shirt Society #NationalDayForTruthAndReconciliation #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters

President & CEO of the Mining Association of British Columbia (MABC), @goehring_m made the following statement on the provincial government’s pause on the expansion of the provincial sales tax (PST) expansion to professional services: “MABC appreciates the provincial government’s decision to reverse their plans to extend the PST to professional services which would have raised business costs for mine developers and operators at a time of unprecedented economic uncertainty and volatility. “British Columbia has the critical minerals, precious metals, and steelmaking coal the world needs. As global demand for these materials grows more mines mean more paycheques for British Columbians in every region of our province.” #bcmining #criticalminerals #pst

‘Mining Matters: Opportunities for BC and Communities’ was the theme of this morning’s @C3AllianceCorp @ResourceSeries. Justin Himmelright, @SkeenaGoldSilv, introduced the panel which discussed how BC’s mining sector sustains urban, rural, and First Nations communities across British Columbia. Before introducing panel moderator @goehring_m, President & CEO of the Mining Association of BC (MABC), Justin reflected on a remark he made two years ago: "We have money in our pockets, shovels in the ground, all we need is permits in ours hands.”  This year, he was pleased to share that the Eskay Creek Project in Northwest BC is fully permitted and under construction, with production expected in early 2027. Michael Goerhing set the stage by noting British Columbia has 31 new mines or mine extensions in various stages of advanced development. If approved, these projects could generate hundreds of thousands of jobs and contribute an estimated $79 billion in economic activity across the province. Nadia Haider, Vice President, Sustainability at @elkvalleyr, spoke about the significant community benefits of the Fording River Extension Project in the East Kootenay region. The project will sustain 1,500 jobs supporting local families, businesses, and communities for years to come. Greg Perrins, Vice President, Sustainable Development @OsiskoGold, spoke about this week’s Final Investment Decision for the Cariboo Gold Project. Osisko expects to invest more than $990 million during the project's three-year construction period, creating up to 600 jobs at peak construction. The company has a target that 75% of hires must come from the Cariboo region, underscoring its commitment to local economic development. Minister @JagrupBrar1 spoke about his government’s efforts to advance mining projects and his Ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve permitting processes. The most important question from the audience focused on how local elected officials can support resource development while maintaining strong environmental stewardship. The panelists pointed to three key considerations: 1️⃣ Continued investment in water quality management and treatment. EVR has invested approximately $2 billion in water treatment infrastructure. 2️⃣ Meaningful partnerships with communities and First Nations. Osisko emphasized the importance of collaborating with local communities to design projects that create shared benefits and long-term success. 3️⃣ BC's strong record of responsible mining. The province's regulatory framework continues to evolve and incorporate advances in science, technology, and best practices, thereby ensuring BC maintains some of world's highest standards for environmental protection and responsible resource development. MABC thanks all the panelists for a thoughtful discussion and the C3 Alliance team for hosting another excellent event. #BCMining #ResponsibleMining #BCPoli #CdnPoli

MABC welcomes the Government of Canada’s announcement on the Productivity Mega Deduction. “For British Columbia's mining sector, this has the potential to significantly strengthen the investment case for new mine developments, mine expansion projects, and refining and processing facilities in British Columbia. Today’s announcement is truly game changing. “British Columbia has or produces 22 of the 34 critical minerals on Canada’s critical mineral list and is home to world class mineral projects requiring substantial upfront capital investment years before revenue is generated. The proposed measure will allow for the immediate deductibility of a broad range of eligible assets including machinery, equipment, and infrastructure used to build, operate, modernize, or expand mines, along with equipment used in mineral processing and refining. “For British Columbia’s mining industry, early access to these deductions will improve project economics, enhance cash flow, reduce the effective cost of investment, and help attract the capital required to move projects expeditiously into construction. BC competes with other global mining jurisdictions for the investment needed to meet the growing demand for critical minerals essential for our economic and national security. “BC has the critical minerals, precious metals, and steelmaking coal the world needs, a skilled and educated workforce, cost-effective infrastructure and clean electricity, strategic access to global markets, First Nations partnerships, and development opportunities needed to support Canada's economic and strategic priorities all within a stable common-law jurisdiction. BC mining expertise has supported global and domestic mining projects for decades. The Productivity Mega Deduction announced today will accelerate BC’s preferred position as a place to invest across the full mining value chain. “MABC appreciates the Prime Minister’s and Government of Canada’s leadership in adopting this very welcome tax incentive.” Read online ➡️ mining.bc.ca/media-statement… #bcpoli #cdnpoli #bcmining
We just announced Canada’s new Productivity Mega Deduction. This cuts Canada’s marginal effective tax rate from 13% to 6.4% on new business investment — the lowest of any major economy in the world. MABC has been advocating for mine permitting and authorizations to become a competitive advantage in BC and Canada. So we were pleased to read Prime Minister @MarkJCarney's comments at the Canada Investment Summit: “Canada will remain a country of high standards. But high standards do not require slow decisions. Speed, certainty and predictability are themselves competitive advantages.” #bcpoli #cdnpoli theglobeandmail.com/business…

You don’t need a mine near your community to benefit from mining. Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island have no operating mines, yet they account for approx. 20% of the economic benefits generated by BC’s mining industry. Mining supports businesses and workers across the province — from engineering and environmental services to finance, technology, transportation and equipment supply. As local leaders gather for the Union of BC Municipalities Convention, an important reminder: mining makes communities stronger. 📊 Learn more: mining.bc.ca/mining-in-bc/ec… #UBCM #BCMining #EconomicDevelopment #LocalGovernment

As local government leaders from across BC prepare to gather in Vancouver for the @UBCM Convention, here’s a number worth knowing: For every 10 jobs at a mine site, another 18 jobs are supported elsewhere in BC - including 12 jobs in rural communities across the province and six in Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island. Those jobs extend into engineering, transportation, professional services, equipment supply and businesses across BC. Mining’s economic impact doesn’t stop at the mine gate. It reaches communities throughout the province. 📊 Learn more in MABC’s Mining and Metro Vancouver Economic Impact Study: mining.bc.ca/2026/05/mining-… #UBCM #BCMining #LocalGovernment #EconomicDevelopment #Jobs

.@TrekorMetals Yellowhead copper project, 150 kilometres northeast of Kamloops, would increase Canada's annual copper production by 16 per cent. MABC’s SVP Corporate Affairs, @TimMcEwan1 referred to the project as “a very significant mine development,” strengthening BC’s role as a North American copper hub. With approximately 70% of economic activity estimated to occur in BC’s Thompson-Nicola region, the Yellowhead Copper Project demonstrates how the responsible development of BC’s critical minerals can make BC and Canada’s economic future stronger.
