i used to listen to this song in college & there was one line in the chorus i always heard as: “can anybody find their own?” i thought that was incredibly profound. aren’t we all in some sense just trying to find our own? years later i looked up the actual lyrics & realized that wasn’t the line at all. the real lyric was much less interesting. turns out my ears had simply heard exactly what they wanted to hear. ever since i’ve become a little less interested in checking what an artist actually meant. the meaning that my mind creates is often much more interesting by default. & i now apply that to basically all art not just music.
