As Russia intensifies its attacks on Ukraine, pressure on Moscow must increase. This applies in particular to those who enable Russia’s aggression and those who benefit from it. Their names must remain on sanctions lists for as long as Russia continues its war. There must be no weakening of sanctions against Russia. Sanctions must be maintained and strengthened until Moscow engages in serious peace negotiations and takes concrete steps to end its aggression. We thank our Latvian and other EU colleagues for the principled positions they have voiced in recent days on maintaining sanctions pressure on Russia.
