In Oleshky, Kherson region, temporarily occupied by Russia, people are facing a horrific humanitarian crisis. Reports say residents are searching for food scraps and collecting grass simply to survive.
Russia is cutting off supplies of food, medicine and other basic necessities, while denying humanitarian organisations access and blocking efforts to evacuate civilians. Russian FPV drones are hunting people in the streets.
Oleshky had around 24,000 residents before the full-scale war. Today, only about 2,000 remain, including around 50 children. There is no electricity or gas, while food, medicine and other essential supplies have been unavailable for the past month.
Ukraine is working to organise an evacuation. The ICRC has confirmed that it is ready to take part, and international humanitarian organisations are prepared to provide life-saving aid. Yet Russia is preventing these efforts from reaching people.
The suffering in Oleshky and other occupied communities of the Kherson region is a direct consequence of Russia’s actions. The international community must put pressure on Russia to allow humanitarian organisations access, establish a humanitarian corridor, and ensure civilians can leave safely.
"We will not allow these crimes to remain hidden behind the frontline and Russia’s refusal to grant access to the occupied territories," Ukraine's Foreign Minister @andrii_sybiha has stressed.

At least four people were killed in Russia’s drone strike on an office building in Kyiv on September 25. Several others were injured, including a child.
Today, a Russian attack drone targeted ordinary food supplies, striking a warehouse used by McDonald’s. Russia is expanding its strikes to US and other businesses, data centres and internet providers.
The world’s response must make Russia feel the consequences of its terror. Ukraine’s long-range capabilities and international sanctions must work together to make that happen.

President Trump and I had a meeting where we discussed general matters. After that, our negotiating teams held a separate, long meeting. The agreement is as follows: we will brief the European side and discuss these details with them; the Americans will speak with the Russians; and in ten days, we will come back with views and results in some shape or form.
As for a trilateral Ukraine-U.S.-Russia meeting, the American side proposed preparing it and meeting at the technical level. We are waiting for the United States to propose a date. The United States proposed the United Arab Emirates as the venue for such a meeting.
There are concrete agreements regarding Patriot licenses. At our meeting, President Trump stressed that he had made his final decision: Ukraine will receive licenses to produce Patriot missiles.

A 14-year-old boy was killed this morning when a Russian drone struck a residential high-rise in Kyiv. At least seven other residents were injured.
This attack on an ordinary residential building was one of many Russian strikes across Ukraine today. Since the start of the day, eight regions have been attacked.
In the Odesa region, a woman was killed as Russia struck a postal terminal. In Zaporizhzhia, a Russian drone attack damaged a medical facility while people were inside, forcing patients to be evacuated. People were also injured in the Sumy and Mykolaiv regions.
Russia continues to escalate its attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilians ahead of winter. So international pressure must increase too. Stronger sanctions and continued support for Ukraine's defence are essential to protect lives and push Russia towards ending its war.

At the @UN Security Council in New York, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister @andrii_sybiha spoke about the humanitarian catastrophe Russia is creating in the temporarily occupied Oleshky, Kherson region, and the civilians trapped there. People in Oleshky are being left without food, water, electricity or medicine.
"As winter approaches, Russia is deliberately making life there impossible. They are starving them to death. No country, no international organization can reach those people. Every day they run out of food, out of water, and all resources to live," Andrii Sybiha stressed.

Today is World Maritime Day. Safe seas, free navigation and trade, respect for international maritime law – Russia’s aggression against Ukraine has put all of this at risk.
Moscow has attacked civilian ships and ports. It has mined sea routes. Its war has polluted the Black Sea with oil, chemicals and other harmful substances. Explosions and mines have killed people and marine life – including dolphins and other protected species.
Russia’s shadow fleet creates risks beyond sanctions evasion. Hundreds of ageing tankers are used to transport Russian oil. Many are in poor technical condition and lack proper insurance, increasing the risk of major oil spills.
Russian shadow-fleet vessels have also been linked to suspicious activity around Europe’s critical underwater infrastructure. They have been reported carrying equipment for intelligence gathering and GPS jamming while operating near undersea cables and other critical infrastructure.
The sea cannot be a place where international rules are ignored. Maritime law must be respected and enforced – in practice.

When we met with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte @SecGenNATO, Kyiv had already been hit by three waves of ballistic attacks. I briefed Mark in detail on all the consequences: the destruction and the casualties. This is the constant reality Ukraine is living with. It is impossible to counter this terror against life on your own.
We have learned how to intercept cruise missiles and drones. We are now looking for solutions to counter jet-powered “shaheds,” and we already have good results. But against ballistic missiles, for now, the only effective option is Patriot interceptors, which we need practically every day. We discussed our needs for these interceptors and how we can secure a winter support package.
Thank you, Mark, for your readiness to look for solutions. This is very important for NATO member states as well, given Russia’s constant threats to go further and destroy the lives of other nations.

Russia launched another ballistic attack on Kyiv overnight on September 24, hitting homes, a maternity hospital, and other civilian infrastructure. Two people were killed and others were injured. Emergency crews are still working at the sites.
Odesa region was also targeted in a large-scale Russian attack. Two people were injured, while homes, a hospital, a school and other civilian facilities were damaged.
Russia continues its ballistic attacks because it has yet to face sufficient pressure from Ukraine's partners. The US can help change this by providing Ukraine with the ballistic missile interceptors and fully enforcing sanctions on Russia and those helping finance its war.

Today, on the sidelines of #UNGA81 in New York, we held the Sixth Summit of the International Crimea Platform, led by President @ZelenskyyUa, which brought together more than 60 representatives of countries and international organizations.
This is where the conversation about Crimea belongs. The restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, including Crimea, is a test of our collective commitment to the UN Charter and the principles on which the international order is built.
The Crimea Platform today is about security, humanity, and dignity. Russia has turned occupied Crimea into a military base and a source of threats to the entire Black Sea region.
At the same time, hundreds of people in occupied Crimea continue to face politically motivated persecution, with Crimean Tatars particularly targeted.
The Crimea Platform must translate political support into practical action every day: strengthening Ukraine’s defense, advocating for political prisoners, countering Russia’s attempts to legitimize the occupation, and ensuring that Crimea remains firmly on the international agenda.
One of the most powerful moments today was the address by Daria Fursova, who was born in Simferopol 2003 and left occupied Crimea in 2021. She was only 11 when Russia occupied her home. Her words were a powerful reminder that behind every discussion about Crimea are real people, their homes, their rights, and their future.
“Crimea is Ukraine” has long gone beyond a political statement. It is a universal message of dignity and respect for international law.
I thank all partners who continue to stand with Ukraine and keep Crimea where it belongs — at the center of our common work to restore justice and a comprehensive and lasting peace.

Ukraine agreed to a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire in March 2025. 51 UN member states call on Russia to finally do the same.
They have issued a joint statement in support of Ukraine.
"We stand in solidarity with Ukraine as it continues to face Russia’s war of aggression," the statement says.
The partner countries called for protecting freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, commercial shipping and critical infrastructure, and safeguarding Ukrainian grain exports and global food security. They also called on Russia to immediately return all arbitrarily detained, forcibly transferred or deported Ukrainian civilians, including children, as well as all prisoners of war and internees.
"Ukraine wants peace. We want peace. Russia must stop its aggression, accept a ceasefire, and engage meaningfully in negotiations towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law," they stressed.
We thank all partner countries for their strong support and solidarity with Ukraine.

Russia has been attacking Kyiv with drones since early morning, including many jet-powered drones.
The aggressor state killed at least two people and injured 37 as civilian and critical infrastructure was targeted – pharmaceutical facilities, petrol stations, railways, communications networks and shopping centres.
Among the sites damaged today is Kyiv’s Shaiba, a well-known example of Kyiv modernism, built in 1973 to a design by architect Alla Anishchenko. Strikes have also hit cities and communities in eight regions.
At the UN General Assembly, Ukraine is working with partners to keep pressure on Russia and support for Ukraine strong. After attacks like these, there can be no weakening of sanctions. Russia and its oligarchs must understand that this war cannot simply be waited out – it must end.
