🇬🇧 A PATRIOT’S GUIDE TO AFGHAN RESETTLEMENT AND YOUR COUNCIL
After Mahmoods intentions set out yesterday, people need to start organising at the local level to prevent invaders being housed in their area.
REMEMBER: YOUR COUNCIL DOES NOT HAVE TO TAKE THESE SAVAGES.
1. FIND THE DECISION
Search your council website for Afghan, ARAP, ACRS, LAHF and resettlement, then find the paper that shows exactly what your council agreed to.
2. FIND WHO APPROVED IT
Establish whether the decision was made by Cabinet, Full Council, a Cabinet Member or an officer using delegated powers.
3. FOLLOW THE MONEY
Find out how much funding was accepted, how many homes are involved, how much council money was added and whether the council asked for extra funding.
4. ASK YOUR COUNCILLORS
Write to your ward councillors and ask whether they support the decision, whether they voted for it and whether they support further Afghan resettlement locally.
5. USE THE COUNCIL MEETING
Submit a public question asking who approved the programme, what it is costing locally and whether more placements are planned.
6. USE FOI
Request the funding figures, property numbers, council contributions, decision papers and correspondence relating to additional funding.
7. USE SCRUTINY
Ask the relevant scrutiny committee to examine the decision and check whether it can still be formally called in.
8. ORGANISE LOCALLY
Share the documents, councillor responses and meeting dates so other residents can ask the same questions.
9. CONTACT LOCAL PRESS
Send local journalists the documents, figures and names behind the decision so they have something concrete to investigate.
10. KEEP THE PRESSURE ON
Find out what your council has already agreed to, what it plans to do next and make the people responsible explain their decisions publicly.
