Because it’s what they believe. The French Revolutionaries opened the prisons. So did Lenin. The cruelty is the point. The destruction of society is the point.
In all seriousness, how the hell did prison abolition become a thing on the left?

Fundamental problem at the core of current homelessness policy in Los Angeles: The faster we build $1MM apartments to give away to homeless people, the stronger the incentive we create for homeless people to move here.

‘Defund the police, fund homeless services.’ This is what these NGO DSA types do: they parasitize the public coffers and funnel money from essential services to themselves and their cronies. Real public services (like public safety) then deteriorate as they line their pockets.

There is no more urgent or possible moment to end the racial, environmental, and moral crisis that is homelessness in LA. Our leaders have finally been forced to listen. The path is not complicated: fund services. Fund housing. Fund care. Defund the police.

Would be curious to hear what Baudrillard-enjoyers think but it strikes me that we have hit Stage 4 of the simulacrum where no true reality exists behind the spectacle of performative leftism. The hyper reality is detached from any real intent to change political economy much less critique it and we’re on an endless self-referential loop of these sorts of performances.
