If you’re a middle-aged creative whose career peaked 10-15 years ago and is hanging by a thread 100% chance you’re going to be decrying the ‘genocide.’

The real horror of the Ed Sheeran/ Macklemore spectacle is that these two mediocrities are still filling up cultural space more than a decade after their shelf life expired.

Smart people are often hesitant to voice their faith publicly like this, which is understandable because it can be uncomfortable and an imposition to share something so personal - ideally faith would be a private matter. But we’ve become so alienated and weird and this possibility has been so scrubbed from the culture that there’s now an urgent need for it to be pushed forward - smart people who draw from their faith need to be open and clear and let others know what’s there.

If you’re protesting a ‘genocide’ and not just manufacturing social media content, shouldn’t the occasion be a bit more somber? Doesn’t this ultimately trivialize the events your politics are predicated on?

It makes me very happy that the left is focusing all its energy on an intractable conflict thousands of miles away that it lacks the knowledge and intelligence to even model in a meaningful way. The reason why ‘Palestine’ is making an appearance at an AI protest is that ‘Palestine’ is the apex Omnicause issue. Whatever else is in the ideological portfolio there is always one ascendant issue (currently ‘Palestine’). On these terms ‘Palestine’ belongs everywhere.

I do think that the NHJ specifics are less interesting than the broader social phenomenon: People overvaluing their retarded little careers has made them extraordinarily narcissistic and self important to the point that they are uncaring and indifferent even towards the needs of their own children.
