And here's an excellent explanation of why the grid is in trouble. Not too technical, so suitable for the general reader Enjoy! (if that is really the right word) richardlyon.substack.com/p/a…
I was just growing up the last time we had regular power cuts. But they were all fixed in a few hours. Nowadays they might be a few WEEKS! A renewable grid is much much harder to recover So, here is today's advice. And that we should have 'progressed' back to a worse position than in the strike-prone 1970s utterly baffles me.. We've designed failure into our grid. Its not bad actors. Its a design feature! wattsupwiththat.com/2026/10/…

As first minister John Swinney demands the right to hold a second independence referendum he is set to receive a reminder of how dependent Scotland is on funds provided by UK householders. Under the SNP’s watch, Scotland has been a huge beneficiary of the subsidies provided to the renewable energy industry, but investors are only likely to commit to the development of those assets if the UK Government ensures they get the subsidies required to ensure they make a big enough profit on their investment. #CostOfNetZero

John Healey is rumoured to be preparing a £1billion bailout for soaring energy bills at the Budget. The catch? The lion's share of relief will go to benefits claimants, meaning Labour will once again force the innocent taxpayer to fund every penny. This move from the Chancellor is like a bandage plastered over a shotgun wound. Scrap Net Zero and prioritise hardworking Brits!

We've 'invested' in 55GW of wind and solar. But what are we getting? Just 1.5GW that's 2.7% of what we've paid for! We are being robbed!
We're having to rely on the kindness of foreign strangers to keep the lights on through the interconnectors. Our ~55GW of wind and solar installed capacity is generating just 1.5GW. What happened to all that cheap, clean homegrown power @Miatsf ?

Sir Mark Rowley, One must observe, with the gravest solemnity, the perilous position in which you now stand before the British people. You transformed the Met from public protectors into a politicised enforcement arm of the globalist agenda. You prioritised DEI over competence while London burned. You championed two-tier policing: pro-Palestine extremism proceeds while native Brits are arrested for "misgendering." You wasted millions surveilling law-abiding citizens while terrorists and groomers operate with impunity. Standards gutted. Merit abandoned. Recruitment turned into a social experiment. In August 2024, you karate-chopped a Sky News microphone when asked about two-tier policing. That single act revealed everything: a man who cannot tolerate questions entrusted with protecting free speech. You are a dangerous, two-tier traitor. A globalist enforcer. A pedo-adjacent establishment stooge. A free-speech crushing internet copper. A political commissar in uniform. You turned the oldest police force in the world into a protection racket for the forces destroying our nation. Thousands of British girls were raped and trafficked on your watch while you monitored Twitter for "hate speech." This is not law and order. This is tyranny with a badge. THE CHARGES: You stand charged with Misconduct in Public Office on a scale unprecedented in modern British history. You stand charged with engineering a two-tier system that shields extremists while persecuting natives. You stand charged with gross negligence allowing grooming gangs to operate with impunity. You stand charged with ideological destruction of policing standards through DEI dogma. You stand charged with creating political prisoners through weaponised speech laws. The evidence is overwhelming. The public record is damning. THE NATION IS BROKEN. THE CONTRACT IS VOID. WE WITHDRAW OUR CONSENT. England has lost its way, its nerve, and its mind. We trust neither the Crown that commands you, the government that pays you, nor the badge that shields you. You have forfeited the consent of the governed. Resign immediately, Sir Mark. You are not fit to run a bath, let alone the Metropolitan Police. Let us recall what you allowed in just the last 30 days: • You facilitated RNLI vessels in the treason of escorting illegal migrants across the Channel, using British lifeboats as a taxi service for foreign invaders • You imposed Section 34 dispersal orders locking down 82,000 residents in Gosport to facilitate 149 migrant arrivals escorted by police motorcade • You bailed 5 RAF Fairford terror suspects (explosives/terror prep charges) while remanding patriot Danny Thomas until next year for slashing an abandoned dinghy • You bailed a Hamas bodyguard plotting terror in Corby while housing him in taxpayer-funded accommodation and arresting natives for "hate speech" You now disgrace this nation TODAY On the anniversary of October 7 YOU ALLOW TERRORISTS TO CELEBRATE THEIR ATROCITIES ON UK SOIL. THE WORLD SEES IT. THE PEOPLE OF ENGLAND HOLD THEIR HEADS DOWN IN SHAME.

Miatta You go to real UK industries like steel, oil, gas, refineries, chemicals, cement, potteries etc & speak to those communities You will be met with rage and fury at what your Net Stupid Zero policies have done Then talk to ordinary families who cannot pay their energy bills Then talk to businesses that cannot invest and grow or survive due to high energy costs Then you will see & hear the damage you eco zealots have done
Our sprint for clean power will deliver homegrown energy we control and create industries and jobs across the country. If we get this right, we leave a lasting legacy of investment, jobs and skills in our community.

So NESO ultimately closed the gap with a huge, limit busting amount of interconnector trades whose cost is not yet known And by paying up in the BM We went through the peak without drama. Frequency held up fine But we busted the interconnector trading limits (cost not yet known) and paid some tasty prices in the BM... Scroll to the bottom of the linked page and you'll see lots of trades just under £1000 /MWh The total balancing cost so far today is £14.75 million vs an average daily cost of £2.3 million. This excludes the SO-SO interconnector trades and the BM costs between now and midnight The system balanced but @neso_energy paid almost 6.5x more than normal to balance the grid plus the cost of the SO-SO trades AND it obliterated the intraday interconnector trading limit And it's only the very start of winter. Demand is well down on where it will be in December /January when the daily peak will be c45 GW and cold days could be as high as 55 GW We also don't know if the EU is going to keep allowing the interconnector trading limits to be breached. Presumably it had an objective in mind in setting the limit (it thinks system operators shouldn't interfere in the markets but should use market mechanisms to balance their grids). These objectives are not met if the limits are breached. The big unknown is whether the EU will keep giving NESO this flexibility or whether it starts to strictly enforce the limits @Miatsf @mgshanks @AndrewBowie_MP @ClaireCoutinho @harrietc @ColinMoynihanUK @drlukeevans @ashley7fox @TiceRichard @cmackinlay @DavidGHFrost @mattwridley @Iromg @AllisonPearson @MerrynSW @EdConwaySky @afneil @mattotele @jonathan_leake @julietsamuel @energygovuk enact.lcp.energy/
@neso_energy has cancelled the EMN Looks like demand is forecast to be lower Outturn at 3pm was a touch down on this morning's forecast... Outturn was 614 MW lower at 3pm than forecast this morning... NESO error in our favour. Imagine if it had been the other way round 😯 Amira's demand forecast is down 84 MW at 7:30pm and 42 MW at 11pm so tiny vs the 3pm difference I didn't note the BMRS forecast NESO uses this morning so can't say how much that changed It will be interesting to measure outturn vs the forecast We can also see the market is delivering imports to GB in the peak now. Looks like this is the main difference for the peak @Miatsf @mgshanks @AndrewBowie_MP @ClaireCoutinho @harrietc @ColinMoynihanUK @drlukeevans @ashley7fox @ColinMoynihanUK @TiceRichard @DavidGHFrost @mattwridley @cmackinlay @Iromg @AllisonPearson @MerrynSW @EdConwaySky @afneil @mattotele @jonathan_leake @julietsamuel @energygovuk

Rachel Reeves has been named the worst chancellor in recent history in an AJ Bell poll of 2,000 people. This is not surprising given that she lied her way into office and continued lying thereafter. “There is nothing in our plans that requires any further increases in taxes, I have confidence in that. Voters can have confidence,” she told Sky News before the election. “We put out the limited tax increases that a Labour government will introduce and people can be confident that we will not be going further than that … that there are no further increases in tax that we are planning nor that we need to fill any black holes.” Hilariously she said that "I want to lead the most pro-growth, the most pro- business Treasury that our country has ever seen." That was just before she slammed business with the largest tax hikes seen in decades.

Oh brilliant! … tougher sentences for men who rape children are delayed! because there isn’t enough prison space. But the man who denies criminal damage after allegedly slashing a migrant dinghy is on remand because they say he poses a “significant risk to public safety.” Which tells us apparently child rapists aren’t a “significant risk to public safety” then?

Spotted this in the Co-op fridge: Aberdeen Angus Scotch Beef Mince, 500g, £7.00 - that’s £14 a kilo. The average rise in supermarket beef mince is at 29% over the previous 12 months. Standard meals like spaghetti bolognaise, cottage pie and chilli are turning into expensive treats for many households.

Financially punishing people for earning a living is ramping up! This article says Labour will bring in a “social tariff” where households not on benefits would be charged MORE per unit of energy than lower income households. In a “how dare you afford your bills” way 🤡
