I remember I was in my first year of college when the cheating scandal of the then Vice President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, broke. It was all over Red Pepper. Being the wiseacre that I was, I bought a copy and took it home to show my mother, who was a member of the Catholic Mothers’ Union at Mbuya Church. Those women and the entire Catholic community practically worshipped Bukenya. They would line up in their gomesis just to greet him whenever he came to church. He was a devoted Catholic leader who commanded respect wherever he went. With my little habit of gossiping, I narrated all the drama to my mom and handed her the Red Pepper as my "receipt" to prove my story. I expected her to be embarrassed and ashamed, but instead, she lectured me about being judgmental and told me we cannot judge other people’s sins. She said Bukenya is only human and that Red Pepper is full of nonsense. She even blamed Red Pepper for Bukenya’s cheating scandal. The Catholic community stood by him. They never condemned him, and he still receives VIP treatment in the community despite his "sins." Since then, I promised myself never to judge people for sexual sins. My mother humbled me and my gossip. I still regret the money I spent on that copy of Red Pepper. May the soul of Moses rest in peace. Let us not judge.

JUST IN: Ugandan music legend and Afrigo Band saxophonist Moses Matovu has died after he was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants in Kibuli. Police say Matovu, popularly known as Papa Moi, was attacked in the early hours of Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Kibuli Market Zone B in Makindye Division, Kampala. He was rushed to Kibuli Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. #NTVNews
