Bird watchers in Colorado lost another great birdwatching area in Pueblo: the "Olive Marsh" (red).😞 Seems it was leveled as part of a nearby dam removal project (yellow)?

An excellent example of why you **ALWAYS** read the function documentation when coding in R (and other languages). Know how your tools work.
If that 1st argument is an integer > 1, the behavior is different from what sample() does otherwise.
So yes, it's a feature, not a bug.
R users, watch out for this somewhat infuriating behaviour of the sample() function.

I've been hoping to cross paths with one of these in NV and after two failed attempts this weekend, I finally crossed paths with this male Rose-breasted Grosbeak today in Reno. Maybe in 2022 I'll clean up on all those neglected county and state birds I still have yet to see.

Dr. Fred Brauer passed away yesterday at age 89. 😔 I first met Fred in the MTBI summer program. His lectures were excellent. He was a prolific researcher, great mentor, and an all-around excellent person. He'll be sorely missed.

Ha! Oh, those poor @Facebook employees who have to review these things. (From a FB thread wherein I was trying to clear up some misconceptions about flu and COVID-19 data).
I'm rarely on nextdoor, but I've noticed a little outreach from municipal offices. But not much in the way of them in comment threads to point out mis-/dis-information. It would be great for those accounts to be doing that though. Helps anonymize individuals.

Whoa! The full list of all 10 math classes taught at @UNevadaReno in 1894-95 when UNR had 5 buildings, 23 faculty (no Ph.D.s), and Reno had 6000 residents. Yes, there were only 2 physics courses. More UNR history at library.unr.edu/specoll/univ…

Last year, my 4yo twins wore their masks all day at school VOLUNTARILY (not required or enforced by their daycare). Their big brother was required to (full time, in-person elementary school). No big deal for them -- it seems kids take to mask wearing WAY better than many adults.
