Thank you to everyone in Pensby who joined me at my recent coffee afternoon ☕ We had a thoughtful discussion on a wide range of issues, including the Green Belt, re-industrialisation and disabled parking. I recently voted against the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill – more commonly known as the Assisted Dying Bill. I spoke to numerous constituents about this topic and really appreciated hearing your individual experiences about such a sensitive matter – thank you for helping to inform my views. Every family deserves peace of mind that their loved ones will be treated with dignity, compassion and respect when they need care. Today, I've written to Baroness Casey and the Casey Commission's Big Conversation on Care, sharing anonymised stories from constituents across Wirral West who have come to me for help with issues ranging from dementia care and care home funding to Continuing Healthcare assessments and safeguarding concerns. These experiences remind us that behind every policy and funding decision is a real person, and very often a family doing everything they can to support someone they love. The Commission wants to hear directly from people who have experience of the care system, whether that's as someone receiving care, a family member, or an unpaid carer. Your experiences can help shape the future of adult social care. The conversation closes on 23rd September, so if you have a story to share, please consider taking part. There is a problem with postal services in our area - I have heard from people across our area who are fed up with getting important letters late. This is in spite of excellent dedication from our local posties (I've seen it first-hand!). Everyone should have access to a timely postal service that they can rely on. So I have written to the Chief Executive of Royal Mail to ask for a review into the delays and an assurance that things will improve. I wanted to share this with you - if you have any issues of post or parcels arriving late, please do let me know. I'll share it with them.

Yesterday I spoke in the debate on Israel and Palestine. I tried to approach the debate with care and responsibility. That is a requirement on all of us who want to see peace in the region. 🇮🇱 🇵🇸

Labour is bringing our buses back under public control. This change puts passengers before profit, giving local people greater control over their transport network – placing the power to decide routes, timetables and standards back into local hands. As bus franchising now rolls out across the Liverpool City Region, I’m happy to see that the first yellow buses are already out and about on roads!🚌 This is Labour delivering essential, passenger-focused public transport.

It was great to visit Woodchurch Primary School recently – thank you to the staff and pupils. I had the opportunity to hear students’ ideas for the Pride in Place investment and what they’d like to see in their community. I’m excited to work with local schools to help ensure the £20 million investment in Woodchurch delivers for children and young people.

This week, pupils across Wirral West are going back to school after a very hot summer holiday! ☀️ Good luck to all returning students and teachers, I'm sure the 2026-27 academic year will be another that local schools can be proud of. Remember... From this month, Labour is changing rail card rules to ensure students aged 16-18 will benefit from half-price rail fares - encouraging young people to travel to school and extra-curricular activities by train 🚂

❗ Update on the land near Townshend Avenue, Irby ❗ I've written to Wirral Council seeking urgent answers about the extensive works taking place on land adjacent to Townshend Avenue, Irby. Constituents have raised serious concerns about activity on this Green Belt site, and it is vital that planning rules are followed and properly enforced. I will continue to press for clarity, transparency and action on behalf of local people.

It’s wonderful to see so many parks across Wirral West awarded the prestigious Green Flag status for 2026 – with the Wirral itself receiving more awards than any other authority in the North West. 🌳I’m happy to see that the fabulous green spaces we know and love are receiving recognition beyond our community. 🗞️Fabulous news for communities across Wirral!🗞️ 💰Nearly £1.6 million of National Lottery funding has been secured for the new Thriving Communities programme - following a bid coordinated by Wirral Council. The programme is working closely with our community organisations to deliver environmental activities across the Wirral ✅ The programme aims to: 🌿 Engage 14,000 residents in community-development climate action 🌿 Lower the weekly food bills of 570 households 🌿 Help 3,500 residents improve their mental wellbeing 🌿 Reduce the energy bills for 620 households These community-led projects will support residents by saving money on energy and food bills, improving mental and physical wellbeing whilst encouraging stronger relationships to nature.🌾 I’m pleased to see such well-deserved investment in the enrichment and wellbeing of residents across our local communities.

Recently, I had the chance to meet residents for an afternoon of surgeries at my office. Housing, Peak Cluster, access to healthcare and private renting were all key issues that came up. These conversations are critical to shaping my work in Parliament. Congratulations to all those getting their results today!

🌱Earlier this year I had the great opportunity to visit the Carrs Wetlands area in Hoylake with the Cheshire Wildlife Trust, where they told me more about the restoration work being implemented on the wetlands.🌱 The shallow wetland features will mimic natural landforms and are expected to retain water - encouraging migratory birds to use the area for roosting. I am proud to see how initiatives like this across Wirral West are actively restoring important landscapes to environmentally benefit our area, whilst widely supporting our wonderful wildlife.
