Pvt. Harry Hudec stood 6'4" tall & was the regimental boxing champion of the 82nd Airborne Division’s 508th PIR, but his greatest fight came during the battle for Normandy. 🥊 On D-Day, Hudec made his first combat jump into Normandy, dropping at 1:30 AM with Headquarters Company. He fought fiercely at Hill 30 between Chef-du-Pont and Picauville. 🪂 On June 15, German hand grenade fragments tore into his leg, severely wounding him.🏥 Crawling to a nearby French farmhouse, Hudec was hidden in the stable by a brave farming family who tended his wounds for four days. When Germans approached, the farmer warned Hudec who hobbled down the road until American forces rescued him. 🇺🇸 After recovering, he jumped again during Operation Market Garden in Holland. 🪂 Later, he endured the brutal winter fighting of the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes. 🪖 During his service, the boxing paratrooper tough earned the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Parachutist Badge with two combat stars, & the Presidential Unit Citation awarded to the 508th PIR for their heroism in Normandy. 🎖️ After the war, Hudec returned home to Cleveland, Ohio, married his sweetheart, Dorothy, raised three children, & enjoyed a 43-year career with the Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company. 🔋⚡️ In 2004, for the 60th anniversary of D-Day, Hudec returned to Normandy to personally thank the French family that had saved his life decades earlier. 🇫🇷 Harry Hudec passed away at the age of 85 on March 29, 2007. He is buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, Pettis County, Missouri. 🪦

US energy company execs have resigned in disgust as the Trump family is caught secretly expediting the funneling of $25 billion from a sanctioned Russian energy giant in exchange for allowing Russians to obtain a natural gas project in Alaska. According to investigations by The New York Times and Financial Times, Russia's Novatek allegedly concealed its financial involvement in the American project through a UAE-linked intermediary. Gentry Beach, a longtime Trump ally and close friend of Donald Trump Jr., signed an agreement with Novatek to pursue natural gas development in Alaska. Reuters documented the arrangement in February. Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin discussed this cooperation on the Alaska energy project with Trump's representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, during negotiations involving Russia and Ukraine. The controversy deepened when Polar Train LNG's CEO, Joel Riddle, raised concerns about concealed Russian financing and possible sanctions violations. He departed in September, followed by other senior executives. The Financial Times also described discussions about a potential arrangement under which Novatek would provide technology for the Alaska project in exchange for sanctions relief benefiting its Arctic LNG 2 development in Siberia. According to The New York Times, Riddle and two other departing executives warned the Trump administration about the Russian financing and urged officials to investigate. The White House maintains that the project was mentioned only briefly and that no detailed discussions took place. There is no established evidence that Kushner or Witkoff knew about the allegedly concealed financing. Polar Train LNG denies wrongdoing. The central question is how a sanctioned Russian energy company became involved in a major American energy venture while Putin was discussing potential economic cooperation with Trump's representatives and a longtime Trump family associate was pursuing a separate agreement with the same Russian company. Selling Alaska to the Russians or selling Ukraine to the Russians - to the Trump family it's all the same. ft.com/content/e9cfbfbb-e65a…

Tehran's threats are usually noise. This time the behavior looks different. The WSJ reports Iran is warning, publicly and in private diplomatic channels, that if the U.S. and Israel restart military strikes, it will hit not only American bases and warships but Gulf airports, pipelines and other civilian and economic targets. Analysts estimate Iran still has hundreds to thousands of ballistic missiles, and U.S. and regional officials believe it has resumed limited production using stockpiled components in underground facilities. Meanwhile, U.S. and Arab interceptor stocks have dwindled, and Israel's are under pressure too. Then there's the intelligence memo. Axios and CBS News report that the Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton warned Rubio that Iran has "substantially increased efforts to target U.S. personnel," with lethal plotting at "advanced stages" in the Middle East and elsewhere. The State Department is adjusting staffing at posts across the region, and the military is quietly reducing its footprint. The U.S. has also sent a third carrier and another Marine expeditionary unit. My read: the tell isn't Tehran's rhetoric. It's a U.S. intelligence chief putting Iranian assassination plots in writing, defenses still depleted, and logistical moves with people and hardware. Governments don't do that over empty threats.

UPDATE: I wanted to take a brief moment this morning to thank you all for the now 40,000 of you that are following and supporting my content here on X. 40,000 in 7 months. Over the past 7 months, and in particular the last 4, it has been remarkable to see how LOYAL and insightful many of you have been. At a time when the world is such a mess, when ideology, bias, and misinformation is running rampant, your support in allowing me to push out data-driven and verifiable analysis is immensely important. I don’t take it for granted. I hold myself to a very high standard, I choose my words carefully, and I work sun up to sun down every single day of the week to make sure I am doing the best I possibly can in analyzing and assessing the realities of the events taking place in the Middle East and the global economy. As we approach what is very likely to be a renewed phase of all-out war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran, I want to express my appreciation for all of you who have come along for this journey, and I will make sure that I continue to work as hard as humanly possible to give you honest and accurate analysis. Regardless of what it says.

History continues to be made at the front, as Russians themselves are now openly expressing awe at Ukrainian military operations. From superior training and coordination between infantry and air support to greater battlefield mobility, even down to smaller backpacks, Russian accounts are acknowledging why Ukrainian forces are gaining ground. Even with the United States and the world's richest ketamine casualty putting their thumbs on the scale to save Putin, Ukraine continues to clean house.

Great stuff from @shaneharris: "Armed with information that the U.S. provides, Ukraine’s military has launched strikes deep inside Russia. And U.S. spy satellites provide early warning about incoming missiles and drones. Among U.S. personnel on the ground, 'the CIA is in the lead,' a retired senior officer who travels frequently to Ukraine told me. If anything, the Ukrainians, with the CIA’s help, have gotten too good at hurting Russia for Trump’s taste." theatlantic.com/national-sec…

Ukraine is out of Patriot interceptors. Trump is waiving sanctions on Russia to enrich its war machine and blaming Zelenskyy for not wanting to forfeit sovereign territory to an occupation regime of child thieves and rapists. The White House decided to toy with Ukrainian lives this week by throttling satellite internet for a day, just to show an embattled ally who’s boss. If the U.S. is aligning with Russia, then no — Ukraine doesn’t have to play it decorously any longer. This isn’t a fucking cotillion. It’s war. And if Europe doesn’t want to treat it as such, and stand up to the Nero in Washington, then MAGA’s point about NATO and the EU is amply demonstrated. Enough is enough.

Finally published our next KGB training manual, this one on working with agents. Strip away the Marxist-Leninist ideology (or maybe not even these days!) and the psychology and tradecraft are still remarkably relevant.

🙄📕Meanwhile, Russians have started rushing to buy Camus' "The Plague." Sales of the novel have increased by 86% in the last week compared to last year, according to the "Chitay-gorod" bookstore chain. Surprisingly, there is the most interest in the book among residents of Moscow and the Moscow region, rather than the Irkutsk region. The novel "The Plague" is considered more of a parable about a terrible disease, an allegory of the Nazi occupation of France, and tells the story of the European resistance against Nazism and fascism ("the brown plague").

😑💊The Kremlin has called on people "not to listen to various rumors" about the outbreak of plague. However, Russians have a different opinion. Peskov redirected all questions to Rospotrebnadzor, where, according to him, "highly qualified professionals" are working – who claim that the situation in the Irkutsk region is allegedly stable. Meanwhile, Russians have been searching for information about plague 29 times more often: the popularity of the search term increased by approximately 2800% in early October. Next - Beefy explains the culture of denial and how this is most evident when harmful pathogens or diseases are leaked from Russian biolabs 👇

Jim Bakker died. When I was about 8 or 9, he and his first wife Tammy Faye hosted a kids show on Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcast Network. By the time I was in college a decade later, the pair had parlayed their TV skills into the PTL Club, which many of us referred to as the Pass the Loot Club. I remember me and my roommates stumbling in late at night and turning on PTL for a laugh as Jim and Tammy cried — mascara streaming down her face — pleading with their followers to send money ASAP because Jesus told them he wanted them to raise a million dollars by midnight and they couldn’t let the Lord down. Jim and Tammy Faye lived an opulent lifestyle thanks to the scores of ordinary people who would do without to support them and ostensibly the Lord with regular five, ten, and twenty dollar donations. I remember a journalist asking Jim about the gold plated plumbing in the mansion he built at Heritage Village and Jim responded that he was a servant of God and God didn’t deserve no junk. The whole fleecing the flock scheme came crashing down when Jim had an affair with church secretary Jessica Hahn (who went on to do a spread in Playboy magazine) and he got busted for paying her off with PTL funds and for embezzling millions for personal use. Jim went to prison and he and Tammy Faye got divorced. I’ve mentioned before that I see parallels between PTL and MAGA. Both are or were led by immoral conmen who lived large on the backs of gullible rubes who were willing to ignore reality to embrace a slimy huckster they thought understood and looked out for them. There used to be a band called Blind Faith, which is also a pretty accurate description of those who fell under PTL and MAGA spells. Regardless of one’s religious beliefs, you kind of hope there is a literal hell and that it holds a special place for those who enriched themselves by perverting the teachings of Jesus to exploit and harm others. nytimes.com/2026/10/05/us/ji…

A slice of Dave's Killer Bread has more added sugar than a slice of Wonder Bread. On the 21 Whole Grains and Seeds loaf the ingredients go organic whole wheat, water, organic cane sugar, then the grain and seed mix. Ingredients are listed by weight, so there's more cane sugar in the loaf than the entire 21 grain and seed mix. A Dave's slice weighs 45 grams and has about a teaspoon of added sugar. Wonder Classic White has 5 grams in two slices, which weigh under 30 grams each. Gram for gram the two breads come out about even.
