Remembering all those affected by the tragic events of 9/11, 25 years ago today. A commemorative Guard Change took place on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace this morning, during which The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester took the Royal Salute on behalf of The King. The ceremony included performances of both US and UK National Anthems, Hymn to the Fallen and Amazing Grace. Earlier this year, Their Majesties paid their respects at the 9/11 Memorial in New York, as part of the State Visit to the United States.

25 years ago, 9/11 shocked the world. Thousands of lives were lost, countless more changed forever. We remember them, and the brave men and women who ran towards danger to help others. Those seeking to divide us and destroy our way of life will never succeed.

This Back British Farming Day, we're supporting the people who feed our nation. Following drought, we announced £65m to help farmers secure the infrastructure they need for the future. Food security is national security. We're backing British farming, now and for the future.

Another example how, even on a local level, social media misinformation can be really impactful Myself and the DFP team have fielded multiple emails over the weekend from understandably fuming veterans and locals But, alas, it simply wasn't true doncasterfreepress.co.uk/new…

For years, communities have been left to live alongside mountains of illegally dumped waste while criminal gangs profit. It’s just not right. So we’re cleaning up some of the worst sites in the country. But we’re not just cleaning up after the criminals, we’re going after them. More officers, stronger powers, and much bigger fines. These places have been ignored for too long. Not anymore.

This has been a relentless summer for British farmers. The gruelling heat has drained water supplies, crop yields and incomes. I understand the worry that comes with that, and I know farmers need more than the government's appreciation. It's why I went to a farm in Cornwall today to speak to some of them and @NFUtweets directly about our support package.

I know I’ve got work to do to win the trust of Britain’s farmers. Today we’re putting £65m more into supporting farmers through this drought and preparing for the summers ahead. They’re on the frontline of a changing climate and they shouldn’t be left to face it alone. The ability to grow our own food is national security. I’ll treat it that way.
Community note
The £65m is reprioritised from Defra's existing farming budget, not new money from the Treasury. Total agricultural spending remains unchanged as funds are diverted from other departmental programmes. fwi.co.uk/news/burnham-a… defrafarming.blog.gov.uk/2026/08/15/new

This evening, an Emergency Alert has been sent to people across England and Wales as the wildfire risk remains very high. The request came directly from Fire and Rescue Services. I was in Stourbridge today and saw first-hand the devastating impact these fires have had on people’s homes and lives. Our priority now is to keep everyone safe and prevent more fires from starting. During this period of extreme heat, I’m asking everyone to take extra care. Please do not light any fires in gardens, the countryside or other open spaces, including parks, moorland and wooded areas. Our firefighters and emergency responders are working around the clock in incredibly difficult conditions. We can all help them. Please take the Emergency Alert seriously and follow the guidance in place.
