I don’t understand this.
In the mid-nineties, when I began my career, it was normal to stay awake for 24-48 hours every other week, and we didn’t complain or crib — I personally enjoyed it absolutely 💯
As chief officer, it was normal for me to stay awake for 24-48 hours during a Europe run or while loading in China, all while criss-crossing the English Channel or the Taiwan Strait. It was normal to be highly operational even at 103°F.
Now, I'm not comparing my work with that of a doctor.
BUT—and a big BUT—
Did we drop dead? Did we watch people around us drop dead because of excessive working hours? And let me state this emphatically: we couldn't afford a single mistake while loading or navigating waters filled with a million dinghies ⛵️.
I guess we were just built differently. Even now, I’ve had my fair share of staying awake for a few days now and then — do I drop dead? 😵
India is producing a weak, hypersensitive generation of snowflakes, and we are romanticising weakness.
When I see a young man or woman, I expect them to slog it out in their twenties and work for 24–48 hours if required.
I cannot understand how anyone can collapse because they had to work for 24–72 hours — what weaklings is India producing?
I can't believe someone can even collapse because they have to slog for 24–48 hours — I can’t!!
Why Doctors are shifting abroad ? Why they are made to work 24 -36 hours continuously !
