Congresswoman, do you know what happens to people as they age? Biologically, I mean. They get removed from the gene pool. Not in the Darwin Awards sense — in the plain evolutionary sense: once you are past the age of reliably making and raising children, what happens to your body stops mattering to the next generation's genes. Nature quits taking notes.
Hold that thought. Because it is the ACTUAL reason cancer climbs with age — and it has nothing to do with a Medicare card.
THE STUDY YOU CITED, NOW ACTUALLY READ
You told Dr. Singh that cancer "spikes at 65" because people finally qualify for Medicare and can see a doctor. One little problem. The study you are waving around shows a spike in DIAGNOSES at 65. Not a spike in cancer. Detection — not disease. Those tumors did not politely wait outside the DMV until somebody's 65th birthday cleared. They were already growing. What changes at 65 is that people who kept putting off a colonoscopy finally get one.
Read that back slowly, because you just made my argument for me: earlier detection is not prevention. The disease was already there. Handing everyone a government card does not bend the biological curve one degree — it only changes WHEN we catch what was already happening. That is a screening statistic wearing a Medicare-for-All costume, and the costume is about as convincing as a solar-powered flashlight.
Before I lose the Christians
I know a lot of you are already reaching for the back button the second the word “evolution” shows up — hang with me for thirty seconds. Most of what you were taught about evolution in school was either incomplete or deliberately twisted. The Bible is not against every form of evolution. It is against *macro*-evolution: the idea that humans evolved from other animals. That claim is the one Scripture rejects.
What the Bible *does* affirm — and what we actually observe in the lab and the field every single day — is "micro"-evolution: variation and adaptation "within" a kind. Genesis 1 repeats the phrase “after its kind” like a drumbeat. Noah was told to take two of every "kind", not every species. Then God commanded them to “be fruitful and multiply.” That command was never limited to head-count. It included the spreading out of variation inside the kind: wolves becoming the entire spectrum of dogs, the single cat kind producing lions, tigers, house cats, and everything in between, the original cattle kind giving us Angus, Holstein, and Texas Longhorn. Those changes are real, measurable, and completely consistent with Scripture. They are also the only kind of evolutionary change we have ever actually watched happen.
The mechanisms I’m about to describe — mutation accumulation after reproductive age and antagonistic pleiotropy — sit comfortably inside that biblical framework. They explain why bodies wear out "after" the job of raising the next generation is done. They do not require one kind turning into another. They simply describe the bill that comes due once natural selection stops caring.
WHY AGE EQUALS DISEASE (THE PART THE HEARING SKIPPED)
Here is the biology your panel breezed past. Two mechanisms. Both settled science, both older than any government program.
Mutation accumulation — Peter Medawar. Harmful mutations that only switch on AFTER reproductive age are nearly invisible to natural selection, because the people carrying them already had their kids and passed the genes along. So they pile up. Generation after generation. Late-life cancer is the bill finally coming due.
Antagonistic pleiotropy — George Williams. Genes that help you young (fast growth, aggressive cell division, a roaring immune system) tend to hurt you old. Selection loves the early win and shrugs at the late cost. The very machinery that builds a strong 25-year-old can grow a tumor in a 65-year-old.
That is why cancer, heart disease, AND Alzheimer's all climb with age together. Not insurance paperwork. Evolution stopped caring decades before anyone hits the Medicare window. Quinn's 16th Law of Liberalism fits you like a glove here — liberals view the world the way they think it SHOULD be, not the way it is. You WANT the cause to be lack of coverage, because lack of coverage has a government solution. The real cause is four billion years old and does not take amendments.
THE ONE THING THAT KEPT US HEALTHY LONGER (AND WHAT YOU WANT TO REPLACE)
There is exactly ONE evolutionary reason humans stay vigorous well past our breeding years while most mammals just drop at the finish line. The grandmother. Kin selection — Hamilton's rule, rb greater than c, for the folks in the back. Grandparents who stayed healthy and present raised the grandchildren. Food. Protection. Knowledge. Free childcare that actually loves the kid. That family bond is the only reason nature ever bothered keeping the old ones running at all.
So watch what the modern left proposes. Cradle-to-grave government care for the old. Universal daycare for the young. Peel both ends off the family and hand them to a bureaucracy. That is not "helping families" — that is dissolving the exact structure that made us human, then billing me for the knockoff. Grandparents raising grandchildren is not a Norman Rockwell accident. It is the blueprint. You want to bulldoze the blueprint and call it progress. A mooncalf could see where that road ends.
Congressman Albert Herlong read the 45 Communist Goals for America into the Congressional Record on January 10, 1963. Goal number 40: "Discredit the family as an institution." I am not saying you read the list. I am saying your platform keeps quietly checking the boxes.
A FEW HONEST QUESTIONS
Medicare for All is a confession, Congresswoman. You already passed your healthcare masterpiece. It was called the ACA. Your party just shut the government down defending it. And now you are on television using a study to admit it never actually got people to the doctor? Pick a lane. Either the ACA worked, or it did not — you do not get to sell it for a decade and then weaponize its failure to justify the NEXT trillion-dollar program. That is muddying the water to make it look deep.
And instead of nationalizing one-sixth of the economy, why not let people OWN their care? Expand HSAs. Fund direct primary care. Put the patient in charge instead of a federal claims office with all the responsiveness of a waterproof teabag. But patient control means less bureaucratic control for you — and control is rather the whole point, isn't it?
So the real question: what have you actually DELIVERED for your district? A bill, a result, one line on a scoreboard that was not just another promise to spend money we do not have? I will wait.
But what do I know. I am only a science teacher who wrote the anatomy and physiology textbook my students learn from, a former paramedic, and apparently the only person in this exchange who read past the headline of your own study.
