Housing affordability is a real struggle that families are facing across Northern Virginia. At the debate, I talked about a few of my ideas on how we can unlock the housing market: 1. Portable mortgages A lot of people feel like they're tied to their home because of their low mortgage rate, especially when moving would mean giving up that low rate in exchange for a higher one. If people were able to carry their current mortgage rate with them to their new house, that would incentivize a lot people to sell and create mobility in the housing market. 2. Indexing home costs to inflation We lived through a tremendous buildup of inflation under the Biden administration, and it's reflected in home prices across the country, even more so in NOVA where we have one of the most expensive housing markets in the region. My idea is to adjust the original purchase price upward to account for inflation between purchase and sale, then homeowners would only pay capital gains tax above that inflation-adjusted basis. Along with increasing the capital gains deduction for personal home sale that @nvar is working toward, portable mortgages and indexing home costs to inflation are common sense fixes that get government out of the way and let families move when they need to, sell when they're ready, and hold onto more of what they've earned. That's what I'll fight for in Congress: a housing market that works for the people living in it, not one that traps them in place. Achieving your American Dream shouldn't be locked away behind a mortgage rate you're too afraid to give up, or a tax bill that punishes you for staying in your house too long. -- @Virginia10GOP @VA_GOP @LoudounChamber

Gorgeous fall Friday in Virginia. Out apple picking with my daughter…cool air, baskets filling up, cider donuts, the whole thing. At the same time I’m still standing up for women’s sports. Girls deserve teams, records, and scholarships that belong to them. Fairness isn’t complicated. Biology isn’t bigotry. Protect women’s sports. Enjoy the apples. Meta has signed a settlement with VA and other states that will ultimately limit screen time across their *combined* Facebook/Instagram feeds for teen accounts (13-17) to 2 hours a day. 🔥 I fought the government when they tried to harm our children during the lockdowns. But the states suing Meta to limit teen access to feeds is a GOOD thing. I can tell you that my kids’ moods totally improve when we limit screen time in the home. They end up happier and spend more time outdoors. We have done it for years, and it’s not always easy. They may fight you… a lot… when time comes to an end. But they eventually find other things to do. I’m glad many state AGs (including Miyares) took action last year to protect our children from the negative effects from consuming social feeds all day long. The US Dept of Education just opened **18 new Title IX investigations** into school systems that allow males to participate in girls’ sports. 18 districts defying US law. And here we have Spanberger promoting more of this outrageous nonsense. Only a small minority want to harm girls this way.

Too much of the “pro marriage”messaging from the right makes marriage sounds like a total drag. The purpose of marriage isn’t to get really good at fulfilling 1950’s gender roles. The goal of marriage is oneness. When two people are committed to serving one another it leads to a deep friendship categorized by love, respect, and real joy—even in hard seasons. Having been married for almost 16 years, I affirm this message! Marriage is fun!! It makes life half as hard and twice as good. And I’m thankful for it everyday ❤️

A lot of the marriage talk I see from the right puts so much weight on roles and duty that it starts to sound like a job instead of a relationship. That’s not why I said yes. We didn’t get married to master some 1950s script. We got married to become one team. When you both keep choosing to take care of each other instead of keeping score, you end up with a real friend. Last week, Virginia Gov. Spanberger ended Youngkin's regulation that kept biological males out of girls’ school sports and female restrooms. There's still some rules left, but the regulation is dead. In 12 days, @SpanbergerForVA's parole board could release the infamous Ocean View rapist who terrorized Hampton Roads. He was sentenced to life plus 273 years. Detectives described him as one of the most violent sexual predators they'd ever encountered. Under Virginia law, he should've never qualified for parole. His terrified victims have reached out as they endure this unjust revictimization, and I will always stand by them and elevate their voices. Contact @GovernorVA's office.
