We had a great time at yesterday’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) meeting!
Students from Virginia gathered at Metro’s Eisenhower office building to connect with one another and spend time with our officers. This was our first Virginia YAC meeting of the new school year. We welcomed back returning students and were excited to see many new faces as well.

A full-circle moment for an MTPD family! 🚇✨
To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we released a series of free trading cards honoring the people who built Metro. One card featured a vintage Metro photo of an early @MetroTransitPD officer, but his identity was unknown – until his family came across the card.
They immediately recognized the late Lt. Anthony Montgomery who served with MTPD from its inception until 2002, helping shape the department during its formative years. His service was so impactful that it inspired his son, Ofc. Anthony Montgomery Jr., to follow in his footsteps and join MTPD, turning his father's dedication into a proud family legacy.
Today, we had the honor of inviting the Montgomery family to Metro Headquarters to present them with an enlarged version of the commemorative card.

Public transit leaders from across the nation came together in Washington, D.C. today for the National Transit Safety and Security Summit.
CEOs and police chiefs from 15 of the largest U.S. transit agencies met to exchange proven strategies for enhancing safety, protecting frontline workers, and improving the customer experience, all while advocating for the continued federal support and funding necessary to keep our systems secure and reliable. Thank you to @FTA_DOT and @USDOT @SecDuffy for meeting with and listening to transit leaders share the most pressing issues they are currently facing.
@wmatagm and leaders from @metrolosangeles, @MTA, @GCRTA, and @APTA_info also spoke to media at an afternoon press conference to underscore the importance of advocacy and partnership.
Public transportation continues to be one of the safest ways to travel in the U.S. By working together, we are committed to advancing the technologies, operations, and policies that ensure transit remains a safe, dependable choice for everyone.

Metro relies on fares to provide the safe, frequent, reliable service our customers deserve.
To curb fare evasion, @MetroTransitPD officers are working alongside our command center to identify and address violations along bus routes in real time. This allows officers to enforce fare payment quickly while helping keep buses on schedule and minimizing disruptions for everyone else on board.
Starting Sept. 14, look out for Metro teams across the bus network providing fare education – including information on reduced fare programs, like Metro Lift – and selling 7-Day Regional Bus Passes for $13.50. 🚍

We honor the incredible courage and selflessness of the first responders, and we reflect on the strength and resilience of our community.
Today, we remember the lives lost 25 years ago on September 11, 2001, and honor the courage and sacrifice of those who answered the call to help those in need.
In remembrance, we joined together for a moment of silence and reflection – which included pausing service across the system for one minute at 9:37 a.m. We also welcomed former Metro Chief Operating Officer for Rail Service, Lem Proctor, as a special guest, who shared memories of how Metro leadership navigated that fateful day and made the key decision to keep the system open.
Our thoughts are with all those whose lives were forever changed by these events.

MTPD has arrested suspect William Faust for his involvement in the shooting that occurred at Addison Road station on Monday, September 7, 2026. The shooting resulted in the death of an 18-year-old man from Lanham, MD. Mr. Faust has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Regulated Firearm while Under 21, Loaded Handgun on Person, and Fare Evasion. Additional charges are being reviewed by the Prince George’s County State's Attorney’s Office and may be filed at a later date.
