My outstanding publisher, @40DegreesNorth, wrote this great synopsis of my novel. Being so close to the subject, I don't think I could have written this: "Many Are Called: The Lion of Deseret" is a gripping tale of faith, courage, and survival set in a brutal post-collapse America. For fathers who feel kinship with the Saints who built the Intermountain West and settled Utah’s valleys, this novel rekindles the pioneer spirit in a thrilling, action-packed journey to Deseret. Kyler Poe, a battle-hardened former soldier, survives in the ruins of Phoenix, a city overrun by chaos and controlled by violent cartels. But when a chance encounter leads him to rescue a pair of sisters and a doctor—fellow Saints clinging to faith in a fallen world—he sets out on an impossible journey. Together, they must navigate the dangers of cartel-controlled territory, cross a hostile Navajo Nation, and evade ambush on lawless desert roads, all in pursuit of reaching the Nation of Deseret—a beacon of order, faith, and safety in the wilderness. But a promised land doesn’t stand unchallenged. As Kyler joins Deseret’s defenders, he faces a grim reality: the borderlands are rife with dangers, and securing Deseret’s perimeter demands more than brute force. It will test his faith, resilience, and capacity to inspire others to stand firm against overwhelming odds. Can Kyler find his place among the faithful and forge a life of purpose in the face of relentless threats? "Many Are Called: The Lion of Deseret" speaks to the heart of every Latter-day Saint who admires the grit and faith of the pioneers who built Zion in the wilderness. This novel combines action, suspense, and heartfelt moments of reflection to create a narrative that will resonate deeply with fathers who want to inspire their sons with timeless lessons of courage, sacrifice, and the power of belief. Packed with themes of self-reliance, loyalty, and the pursuit of spiritual refuge, this is a story for those who honor the legacy of the Saints who once crossed plains and mountains to find a place to live their faith. nauvoo.supply/products/many-…

I competed (using the word loosely) at the Gunsite Alumni Shoot last Saturday. It was fun, but was briefly interrupted when a shooter gave himself an in-and-out leg wound. He had to be taken away by helicopter. This is most common when guys get in a hurry to return to the holster and leave their finger on the trigger. This scenario is totally believable in this case, since he was on a fast-moving stage that required the shooter to draw and holster multiple times – though the holstering portions were off the clock. I see guys slamming guns back into their holsters all the time, as if there’s some reward for being the fastest back to the holster. This is stupid. The only common time anyone needs to be in a hurry to holster is an LEO needing to quickly go hands-on with a suspect. If you’re at a class or a match, or even on the street where you just had to pop an orc or two, take your time holstering your pistol. “Slowly, reluctantly back to the holster” is the mantra. You can even “look the gun” into the holster. Also, shooting yourself is very embarrassing. Avoid.

Attended the 50th anniversary Gunsite Alumni Shoot on Saturday. Didn't shoot quite as well as I'd have liked, but it was a great time regardless. However, the best part of the day came when I was talking to Buz Mills, owner/rescuer of Gunsite Academy, NRA board member, telecommunications magnate, former AZ gubernatorial candidate, and US Marine. After we shook hands, Buz turned to his wife Sonja and said, "That book on my night table? This is the author." Whoa. Felt good, man. And you too can be like Buz Mills! nauvoo.supply/products/many-…

I'm not young, but Eric is absolutely right.
GOP: All you rightwing young men are worthless drains on society, racists, and Nazis. Everything you do is politically irrelevant, you basement dwelling incels. Also GOP: Now get out and support our candidates, or we’ll blame election results on you if we lose.

It took two and a half years of painful waiting, but I was finally accepted into the exclusive Prescott Action Shooters gun club.

From my perch atop the throne, I perused an old shooting magazine when something jumped out (not from the throne). Top is a pic from the 1989 (!) Guns & Ammo Annual. Bottom is from today's Palmetto State Armory website. Evidently the Beretta 92 is inflation-proof 🤌

I’ve never been a hardline defender of “no enemies to/on the Right” But what do I know is that every major *institutional* threat to both our country and the church is on the Left, period. And it’s not even close. Don’t hear what I am not saying. I’m not saying there can’t be “threats” on the Right But after watching wokeness, transgenderism, the mutilation of minors, the rise of BLM, Covid tyranny, the insane Left shift in the Democrats to become the party of open borders, institutionalized anti-White and anti-Christian hate, abortion on demand up until birth being legalized, 3x assassination attempts on Trump, the murder of Charlie Kirk, and more…. Not to mention how Christian institutions played footsie with much of what I mentioned above over the last decade, and accepted and gave cover to critical theorists, anti-White racists, radical climate change activists, open borders leftist, etc., AND STILL DO You simply cannot convince me that whatever threats you think exist “on the Right” are anywhere near the size and scope and institutional nature of the threats on the Left Even take “anti-Semitism.” Who was shutting down college campuses and rallying for Palestine and shouting “from the river to sea” after Oct 7? It was radical Leftists, often funded and backed by major donors. And don’t even get me started on the blatant hypocrisy of “conservative evangelicals” going guns blazing against young White men who are listening to naughty podcasts but literally wrote forwards for disgustingly woke books by radical Black actors in the church (Eric Mason ring a bell?) That side gave us Revoice and Jemar Tisby and Aimee Byrd and “vote for Hillary Clinton” Thabiti and Russell Moore and “I used DEI in my committee appointments” JD Greear and never once apologized for it. Sure, some of those podcasts aren’t great. But they aren’t being used in seminary courses or being mandated in corporate HR trainings the same way anti-Christian and anti-White materials are. The word here is “asymmetrical.” There is no symmetry between any threats on the Right versus the dozens of real threats on the Left. So I’m going to keep focusing on those real threats—to me, my family, my church, my denomination, and my nation. And I’ll refuse to accept the scolding and moral framework of the David Frenchs of the world, who voted for Kamala Harris, who would gladly load evangelicals on the trains to the camps for 30 pieces of Regime silver. And I’ll keep righteously scoffing at the worst woke actors in evangelicalism who think they can now try to compare the “Dissident Right” to “Peak Woke” as if that’s a fair thing to do. That’s laughably wrong. If it weren’t for Donald Trump and his presence on the political scene over the last decade—who these self-righteous hypocrites told us not to vote for btw—every single institution, branch of government, university, and major corporation would be under the iron clad control of the cultural Marxists at this point. The Left is the existential threat. Everything else is a distraction.

I've been using @tannerguzy's excellent ChatGPT bot for about a year now. It's really useful, not only for helping me dress well for different occasions (everything from formal night on a cruise to a Mexican beach vacation), but for things as obscure as designing dress uniforms for a fictional military organization. Today it told me something I thought was pretty profound: "Some clothes don't tell other people who you are. They remind *you* who you are supposed to be." If clothing is communication, sometimes the person who needs to hear it is one's self.

Aaaaaand it is done. I submitted Many Are Called: The Odyssey to the publisher this morning. Interestingly (maybe just to me), the version I sent to beta readers was a relatively skimpy 109K words. After some very useful input and feedback, that swelled to almost 137K. I think it's a much more well-rounded story with what amounts to an added novella. Also, my beta readers are awesome.

Auron is correct, though the writer in me wishes he could locate the period on the keyboard.
Establishment conservatives only care about preserving the institutions of the US—as long as the FBI, Supreme Court, and NFL exist America exists It doesn’t matter who actually occupies those institutions or who they serve, their continued existence is all that matters The New Right believes America is more than a way to organize government, that we are more than a political revolution, that a nation is its people The institutions should serve the people, not the people serving the institutions We think preserving our people and our way of life should be the focus A rift will continue to exist inside the right because being “not left” is not a durable basis for a coalition The difference here is existential, we can’t exist as a nation if “conservatives” are actively supporting the replacement of Americans And the establishment “conservative” ideology can’t exist if we see ourselves as a nation, a real historical people This issue isn’t going anywhere and the right will be at war with itself until it’s resolved

We stopped talking about free speech when we learned it doesn't work, isn't protected, will never be reciprocated, and in the few cases where its still legal they just debank you and make you unemployable. Free speech is for my friends. Libs can eat what they ordered, Cold.
Online MAGA used to talk about "free speech" and "dark humor" but immediately created their own form of cancel culture as soon as they got into power

This will only matter to gun guys, but dang, my friend @GregEllifritz is on fire in this morning's Weekend Knowledge Dump. "And speaking about the Idaho active killer attack, one armed citizen attempted to intervene, but he was carrying a pistol with an empty chamber.  He took a round into his primary gun arm before he was able to draw his gun.  When he eventually got the gun out, he was unable to chamber a round due to his injury.  How would you like to be that guy right now, knowing you could have stopped the killing, but you didn’t do so because you were unwilling to get enough training to feel comfortable with your loaded carry pistol? If you don’t feel it’s safe enough to carry a chambered striker fired pistol, you need more training.  If you are unwilling to seek training to become competent, you should be carrying a revolver. But none of the chamber-empty carry folks will ever carry a six-shooter, even though it’s a far more capable weapon than a chamber-empty semi-auto.  A revolver doesn’t look cool enough.  What does that tell us about a person like that? They are unwilling to take a couple of days worth of training to be comfortable carrying a semi-auto with a loaded chamber.  They are unwilling to carry a revolver with a heavier trigger that is less likely to be accidentally pulled.  Those folks just want to feel like a badass carrying a gun. They don’t have either the mindset or ability to use the gun to save lives.   The gun for them is some kind of a magical talisman that prevents evil acts from occurring in their proximity.   They are more concerned with appearing capable than actually being capable.  I find those folks to be worse than worthless in an emergency.  Contemptible, actually. If you are carrying chamber empty, fix your shit before you get yourself or a loved one killed." Whew, lad!
