We are proud to share exciting news about our nation’s healthcare infrastructure. The Government of South Sudan has officially activated the new Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC) and assigned it to the National Public Health Institute (NPHI).
During a high-level handover event in Juba last Friday, leaders from both the national government and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) came together to celebrate this important step.
The facility was officially passed to the NPHI to improve our response to health emergencies.
The event was attended by our National Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Luk Thompson, and the Director General of Africa CDC, Dr. Jean Kaseya.
Vice President for the Service Cluster, H.E. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, along with Cabinet Affairs Minister Dr. Martin Elia Lomuro and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Akuei Bona Malual, had important discussions with Africa CDC leaders to strengthen health cooperation across the continent.
"𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒄𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒚’𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉 𝒔𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒆 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒚 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒔." — 𝑯𝒐𝒏. 𝑫𝒓. 𝑳𝒖𝒌 𝑻𝒉𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒔𝒐𝒏, 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒕𝒉.
Dr. Jean Kaseya of the Africa CDC stated that this move is a significant step toward better global health security, benefiting not just South Sudan but the entire continent and the world.
This facility shows our dedication to a safer, healthier South Sudan. By centralizing our emergency response efforts, we can better protect our citizens and quickly respond to public health threats.
