Sometimes it takes someone standing outside the machine to explain what’s actually being built inside it.

New York was once the hottest city in the world. Then London, Then Singapore, Then Dubai Then the first bomb fell. The day after, I saw the video from the Dubai airport & immediately knew they had a problem. Today, Miami Beach has the momentum. You don’t have to agree. That’s simply my observation after spending nearly half a century in South Florida. Wherever I go, I see out-of-state license plates everywhere. More than I can ever remember seeing, even during the height of season. But this post isn’t really about Miami. It’s about insurance. 30 years ago, nobody knew if the Internet would survive. Main Street did everything possible to stop it. To kill it. They saw it as a threat. Sound familiar? Much the same way many people view AI today. They lost. But I still built a safety net. Whenever I sold a domain, I NEVER bought another domain to replace it. I diversified. I bought real estate. When I sold Men .com, I bought a condo on Fort Lauderdale Beach. When I sold Porno .com, I bought a condo on the grounds of one of the top resorts in the Western Hemisphere. When I sold Candy .com, I bought a condo in Miami Beach. When I sold BestOdds .com, I bought a little place in Palm Beach that sits in the ocean like a lighthouse. 8 of the 10 properties I acquired through domain sales are in Florida. All with views to die for. I’ve never rented any of them out. But they were always my insurance policy. I always believed the music could stop someday. PPC is a perfect example. Millions became a car payment. My business model was never built around frequent sales. I only have one or two meaningful domain sales every 2 years. That was my way of communicating what was an intangible asset back then into something real that people could understand. That’s where my old saying came from: Turning virtual real estate into real real estate. If everything fell apart tomorrow, I’d simply become a landlord. Fortunately, I don’t think that’s happening. In fact, I think we’re entering the most exciting period in the history of digital assets if you’re sitting on the right domains. And yes, the extension matters. Now more than ever. But that’s a story for another post. 🌱👑
