For those curious, here’s what happened: Prior to the visit, the Congresswoman signed ICE’s Facility Visitation Agreement form, indicating she would abide by all processes and policies governing personal conduct at ICE facilities. One of these policies is that meetings with detainees must be scheduled in advance, both for the privacy of detainees and the safety of visitors. Field leadership welcomed the Congresswoman and led a comprehensive tour tailored to the specific areas she had requested to see, including visitor check-in, intake, kitchen/food preparation and medical services. During a tour of the kitchen area, the Congresswoman asked to speak with certain detainees in the area and was reminded that without prior consent from detainees, her request could not be accommodated at that time. Instead of accepting this guidance, the Congresswoman began talking and shouting to them from a distance, telling the detainees who she was and attempting to get closer to them. This disrupted operations and required intervention by facility leadership. ICE maintains clear policies about acceptable conduct within its facilities, just like all other federal law enforcement agencies do. Those policies are made clear ahead of time to congressional visitors. In short, Kit Laney and Sherry Farr had their cattle taken from them due to overgrazing they were blamed for, though it was Elk utilizing the forage. The ranch was capable of running 2400 head of cattle. They ran 1200 on half the ranch and rested the other half. When the USFS stole their cows, they attempted to sell in New Mexico, but no one would buy them because they were stolen. The USFS attempted to sell them in Texas, but no one would buy them because they were stolen. Finally in Colorado, a buyer called Sherry and said the only reason he is going to buy them is because the cows look sick and like they haven’t been fed right or taken care of and for the sake of the cows, he bought them. The USFS kept the money. The USFS charged Sherry over $200k for the removal of the cows, and Sherry had to sell the ranch in order to pay the cost. Imagine you buy a house, you get told how you get to live in that house, you pay an annual fee to use the house you paid for, and every year you get new rules you have to abide by in your house or face consequences. The indoctrination to hate the ranching industry is taught and learned by those who have little knowledge of where our food comes from or how many beef bi-products we use every day. Your beef doesn’t appear on the shelves by a magic wand. Meet a rancher, shake their hand, put in a days work with them when they brand cattle, see how their care for cattle helps wildlife around them, and notice when the ranchers & cows are gone, the wildlife leaves with them.

🚨Update on the Civil Case Against Brad: The Judge ruled that Officer Lunsford has qualified immunity! Meaning Brad cannot be held personally liable for monetary damages in the civil case. (This ruling can be appealed.) But for now this is great news for us. I have been terrified of them taking everything. I can sleep easier knowing that my babies will have a roof over their heads.
