On Sept. 1, Sheriff Kelly Martinez told the Board of Supervisors: "We have changed our culture."
Since then, 3 people have died in her jails in 22 days:
• Sept. 5 – Central Jail, 50-year-old man
• Sept. 22 – Vista jail, 45-year-old man
• Sept. 27 – Central Jail, 62-year-old man
The last two came just 5 days apart.
The culture hasn't changed. The deaths haven't stopped. The Board needs to demand answers.
