Ambassador Matthijs van Eeuwen has presented his letters of Credence to H.E. Hakainde Hichilema, formally beginning his accreditation to Zambia.🇳🇱🤝🇿🇲 The Netherlands and Zambia share strong and longstanding ties, with a commitment to further growing trade and cooperation in sustainable agriculture, water management, health and other sectors. This includes through the Lobito Corrido, as well as many ongoing Dutch-Zambia partnerships across the public and private sectors and civil society. 🌍

The Netherlands has announced changes to its worldwide diplomatic network, including the planned closure of the Embassy in Harare. We recognise that this is significant news for our partners and friends in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, given the many strong relationships we have built over the years. The decision is part of a broader restructuring of the Netherlands’ diplomatic network and does not change our appreciation for the close ties or our commitment to working with the respective governments and other partners across the region. Ambassador van Eeuwen and embassy staff visited the EU Delegation to sign the condolences book for Ambassador Katrin Hagemann, expressing our sadness at this terrible loss. In conversation with her friends and colleagues in the room, we learned more about her remarkable achievements, her commitment to public service, and the warmth and humanity she always carried with her. We remember not only an accomplished diplomat and colleague, but also a deeply respected and much-loved person who made a lasting impression on so many. Katrin will be deeply missed.🕊️

We continue to work on shared economic priorities between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands. 🇳🇱🇿🇼📈 🌍The Netherlands is honoured to take on the role of Co-Chair of the Land Working Group under the Structured Dialogue Platform. We hosted a first meeting with fellow co-chairs (@UNDPZimbabwe and the Office of the President and Cabinet) with AfDB joining in to discuss roles and responsibilities, next steps on BIPPA, emerging priorities on land in Zimbabwe, and how to keep the good momentum of the previous working group going. 🚜Ambassador van Eeuwen also welcomed @ZimTradeAlerts CEO Allan Majuru to the Embassy. Our teams reflected on a fantastic decade of cooperation between ZimTrade and the Netherlands which spans support to entrepreneurs and SMEs up to large companies and producers. Of course, the huge impact of @PUM_nl was a highlight among other joint projects contributing to Dutch-Zim economic relations. It was also exciting to look ahead to new opportunities to work together. There is so much more we can do!🤝

🇳🇱🛬🇿🇼 Last week we welcomed RVO's private sector development advisor for Zimbabwe, Matthijs Brouwer, for a busy and inspiring joint visit with the Embassy to Dutch private sector development partners across Zimbabwe. RVO is the Netherlands’ enterprise agency, funded by the @DutchMFA. Its 6,500 staff work worldwide to build partnerships and turn ideas into sustainable, inclusive business and trade.🧑‍💻 🌶️ In Victoria Falls, @ForNtengwe is using RVO support to grow a chilli business that creates livelihoods while helping reduce human-wildlife conflict. 🫐 In Marondera, we toured @kumindafresh blueberry farm and packhouse, seeing how an innovative model is helping small growers connect to EU markets. Kuminda are currently growing a Dutch variety of blueberries. 🚛 Matthijs met Dutch-linked businesses in FMCG, logistics and agriculture to hear what is getting in the way of trade, and where there are opportunities to do more. 🚜 We also caught up with @SATZimbabwe and Christian Aid, supporting small-scale farmers in the paprika and sesame and spice value chains. It was our joy to be part of this special occasion, celebrating alongside friends and family as graduates received their hard-earned certifications in a wide range of fields, from construction and solar energy to automotive, culinary arts, welding and many more. Young Africa is nearing an incredible 500,000 young people trained over the years across the region. 🌍 But it’s about more than just technical skills. PUM links seasoned Dutch experts with local companies to provide practical, hands-on advice to help businesses grow and overcome challenges in many sectors.🧑‍💻 🎉This year marks a decade of partnership between PUM and @ZimTradeAlerts. This has been an incredibly effective MoU, with 40 - 80 Dutch experts visiting Zimbabwe each year since! They volunteer their time, and bring practical knowledge and experience to support business growth. Our colleagues Ilyaas Sherally and Roos Welle visited Shamva with @UNFPA_Zimbabwe and local partners to see how the Safeguarding Young People (SYP) programme is helping youth take control of their health and rights - preventing STIs, unintended pregnancies, early marriages and gender-based violence. ♀️ 🟠 During the trip, they met with Chief Bushu to learn how the "Not In My Village" campaign is bringing people together to end early marriages and protect the rights of girls. 👩‍⚕️ They also visited a youth-friendly health facility where young people are accessing healthcare, information and support in a safe environment. We are inspired by the commitment shown by everyone they met. 👏 Traditional leaders, health workers, youth champions and local volunteers are working with passion and care to create positive change. The Netherlands is proud to support this work through our Regional SRHR/HIV Fund. Thank you to UNFPA and everyone who welcomed our colleagues to Shamva and shared your work with them. 🇳🇱🤝🇿🇼
