The defense industrial base is not separate from our national defense—it is the foundation upon which deterrence rests.

Demonstrating production competence is essential to deterrence—it signals to our adversaries that this new strategic competition is one we do not intend to lose.

NNSA is the only organization in the nation capable of fulfilling our no-fail national security mission. Our workforce is the backbone of our national security. Serving the nation through the Nuclear Security Enterprise demands patriotism, dedication, and excellence. Together, we are returning to our roots in the Manhattan Project and the central tenants of Deterrence, Urgency, and Production to meet this critical moment in history.

This Labor Day, NNSA honors the world-class scientists, engineers, skilled workers, and specialists across our Nuclear Security Enterprise. Day in and day out, their hard work delivers a modern, resilient nuclear deterrent to protect our nation and our allies. My goal as Administrator is to move beyond the legacy mentality of simply stewarding an ever-aging stockpile. Going forward, our focus is a return to our Manhattan Project roots: delivering real capabilities, at speed, to the warfighter.

Honored to have been aboard the historic N.S. Savannah, the world’s first nuclear-powered merchant ship, following the launch of the @iaeaorg's Atomic Technologies Licensed for Applications at Sea (ATLAS) initiative with Director General @rafaelmgrossi. The N.S. Savannah shows what’s possible when we partner on nuclear innovation. Through ATLAS, we are building on that legacy to ensure civil nuclear energy at sea is safe, secure, and commercially viable.

The most effective way to maintain deterrence is to deliver capabilities at a pace that our enemies cannot hope to match, and at a scale relevant to the threat.
