TikTok has to pay $100 million in Alabama over claims linked to teen addiction. But look at India. Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts are doing the same thing. People keep scrolling endlessly, and even children are getting badly addicted to short videos. If this is serious enough for a US state to take action against TikTok, why are we so casual about it in India? We need to seriously ask whether these platforms should be allowed to keep designing their feeds to make people scroll for hours, especially when children are involved.

Ambani is rich. Adani is rich. But there’s a visible difference in how they live and present that wealth. Ambani family is often seen with celebrities, big events, luxury weddings and the whole spotlight around them. Adani, on the other hand, seems much more low key and business focused. Both have massive wealth. But being rich and showing that you are rich are two very different things.

In India, people still donate online because they believe someone is genuinely in trouble. Jay Singh Rathore used that trust to raise around lakhs by claiming his 12 year old sister needed urgent eye treatment. He has now been arrested by Agra Police. The most disturbing part is not just the money. It is the damage to trust. After cases like this, people may think twice before helping a genuinely sick child or a family in desperate need. Scamming someone is bad. Using a child's illness and fake medical records to trigger people's emotions is something that deserves serious legal action. Online sympathy should never become a business model.

Global agencies are upgrading India’s FY27 growth outlook. - OECD now sees 7.1% - Moody’s: 7% - Fitch is at 6.9% This comes after India posted 7.8% GDP growth in Q1 FY27. Strong domestic demand, investment, manufacturing and exports are keeping the economy moving despite global shocks. But let’s not celebrate blindly. India’s 7% growth target still has a big weakness. Oil. If crude stays above $100, inflation, the rupee and household purchasing power can all take a hit. The real test is not getting one quarter at 7.8%. The real test is whether India can keep 7% growth while creating jobs, protecting purchasing power and surviving another oil shock. That is where the real economic story will be decided.

A student saying “Jaldi bol, Panvel nikalna hai” during a comedy event may be disrespectful. Fine. Call him out, ask him to leave, take disciplinary action if needed. But calling him on stage, grabbing his collar and saying “I can go to any extent” is completely unacceptable. A professor is supposed to handle students with authority, not use physical intimidation. This is exactly where the power difference matters. A student can be wrong for heckling, but that does not give a teacher the right to put hands on him or threaten him in front of hundreds of people. If teachers lose their cool over a harmless movie dialogue, what are students supposed to learn from them? Discipline is not about fear. Respect cannot be demanded by grabbing someone's collar.

IRDAI has finally woken up. Now it wants insurance companies to stop asking for your phone number, email and personal details just to show you the price of an insurance policy. Insurance companies and intermediaries have been collecting customer details for lead generation for years. Now, after years of this system, the regulator is proposing that people should be able to check prices without handing over their personal information. This is exactly how regulation should not work. First let companies collect people’s data for years, then wake up and propose rules to stop it. Regulation needs to come before the damage, not after the data has already been collected.

This is a crime. Just days after the Jamui case, another minor girl was harassed and molested by a group of men in Samastipur. 4 accused have been arrested. The fact that such incidents are being recorded openly on phones makes it even more disturbing. People need to understand one simple thing: a girl being seen with a boy or in modern clothes is not an invitation to abuse, question, touch or punish her. Nobody gets to become judge, police and criminal at the same time. Girls should be able to step out without fearing a mob. Law and order has to work before the video goes viral, not after.

Imagine you are standing outside a hospital and urgently calling your family because something has gone wrong. You dial the number. But instead of connecting the call, you are forced to listen to a long telecom announcement saying your recharge is expiring and you should recharge soon. Then the same message comes in another language. Your call is still not connected. We already know our recharge is expiring. Send an SMS. Send a notification. But don't play it during a phone call and waste the caller’s time with a useless warning. Let the call connect first. Put the warning in the background if you absolutely have to play it. @TRAI, fine these telecom companies for wasting customers’ precious seconds. In an emergency, even 10 seconds matters.

Mumbai’s famous Gallops' food license suspended. A40 year old restaurant has been shut after an FDA raid found blood and ketchup stains on ice, live cockroaches and ants in the kitchen, grease, water stagnation and raw material in damaged packaging. This is not some roadside food stall. This is a well known restaurant at Mahalaxmi Racecourse. If such basic hygiene can be ignored at a place like this, imagine what can happen in kitchens that nobody checks. Restaurants can charge ₹500, ₹1,000 or ₹2,000 for a meal, but they can't even maintain basic hygiene. If inspections are not done regularly, customers have no idea what is happening behind the kitchen door.

One day, you may realise that the life you were running towards was actually the life you left behind. If your work lets you earn well from a laptop, you don't have to spend your entire life paying rent for a tiny apartment, sitting in traffic and breathing polluted air. Go back to your village. Turn the old family house into a beautiful home. Grow your own food. Keep a few animals. Support local people. Sit outside in the evening. Have a cup of tea. Let your children grow up knowing what soil, trees, cows and open skies look like. You don't need a luxury apartment to live comfortably. Sometimes, the real upgrade is leaving the city behind.

In India, many employees are still praised for sitting late in the office. Long hours, weekend calls and "work first, health later" culture are still normal in many workplaces.

1 politician scammed ₹350 crore. 1 IAS officer got a ₹50 crore as gift. 1 IPS officer took a ₹2 crore bribe. 1 businessman evaded ₹500 crore in taxes. But people are doing everything possible to expose the person who collected just ₹1.6 lakh in donations, which people sent themselves. This is how we ignore the big scammers and run after the small ones. And people who send money to someone without verifying anything first are fools themselves.

The recent incident in Jamui, Bihar is shocking. Some people think they own society. They decide what a woman should wear, where she should go, who she should talk to and what she should do. Who gave them this right? This is not morality. This is harassment and bullying. Anyone who attacks or scares people in the name of moral policing should face strict punishment and stay behind bars. We need law and order, not self-made moral police.

ONE MORE INCIDENT. A 17 year old girl went to Kalkaji Mandir with her friend. In a nearby Park, 3 men posed as policemen, threatened them, separated the girl from her friend and g*** r**** her. One accused arrested. And this happened in Delhi, not some remote isolated area. What exactly is happening with policing and surveillance? Now every politician will talk about this and that. The ruling party will say no one will be spared, while the opposition will blame the ruling party. I’ve just lost trust in both of them. Every time such a case happens, there is outrage for 2-3 days and then silence. That is not enough. Delhi needs real accountability, better ground level policing and safer public spaces. Criminals should fear the law, not ordinary people fear criminals. WOMEN'S SAFETY IS A MYTH.

Very good morning with another fraud. The former Vice Chancellor of Gujarat University proposed a ₹23.9 crore brain mapping project and then approved it himself. The project was given to IGSR, a private company. From the same company he received ₹24.98 lakh as consultancy fees as researcher and consultant. Every day, we hear about a new corruption case, fraud or misuse of power. It slowly destroys public trust. And once people's trust is lost, rebuilding it is much harder.

Today, I was sitting with an elderly woman from my society, around 72 years old, and she told me her family story. Her father had two wives. His first wife had 4 daughters, but no son. They had around 200 vighas of land, but there was no son to take care of it. So, when he was around 60, his wife and daughters got him married again, only because they wanted a son. He married a woman who was mentally unwell, because nobody would normally marry a 60 year old man. They had a son within a year, and later two daughters. (One of whom I was talking today.) Over the years, he kept selling the family land to support the family. From around 200 vighas, only about 35 vighas are left. I often think people today are becoming more extreme in their thinking. But after hearing this, I feel people in those days could be even more complicated and cruel. The obsession with having a son was real.

We need to stop treating marriage like a compulsory life achievement. For generations, especially in India, a woman being single after a certain age becomes a family discussion, a neighbour discussion and sometimes even a full time investigation. Why are you still single? is asked as if marriage is a government exam everyone has to clear. But there is one uncomfortable truth here, a bad marriage can cost far more than being single. Peace, financial independence and freedom are not small things. If someone is genuinely happy alone, why force them into a relationship just to satisfy society? At the same time, being single is not automatically better either. A good partner can make life better, just like the wrong partner can make it miserable. The real progress is simple, stop treating marriage as the default and let adults decide what kind of life they actually want.
